This section contains lessons learned on Joint Programme experience to date. It includes country Review Reports (lessons learned) on Joint Programme development and implementation experience, undertaken by UNCTs in more than a dozen countries. This section also includes Staff Working Papers – a vehicle for presenting new ideas, innovative approaches and research results. These papers, though not edited to official UN publication standards, have been prepared to facilitate exchange of knowledge and perspectives on Joint Programmes among field offices.

Joint Program Lessons Learned:Staff Working Papers

In 2005, fourteen UNCTs have agreed to participate in a Review (Lessons Learned) of Joint Programme experience, overseen by the UNDG Joint Programming WG and funded by the UN DGO. More than twenty Joint Programmes were reviewed. The local reviews were carried out by Local Consultants, in close collaboration with the RC Offices and UNCTs. Final Country Review Reports are available on this site.
The 2005 review focused on the process of Joint Programme development and implementation (efficiency, effectiveness, transaction costs, management and coordination arrangements, national ownership, etc). It was not intended to evaluate the countries’ Joint Programmes.
The overall objectives of the review were: 1. To determine how Joint Programmes are being used to contribute more efficiently and effectively to achieving national development results and national capacity building
2. To learn from the experience and process of the implementation of the Joint Programme(s) to inform the development of future joint programmes
3. To record the notable results or "development impact" of Joint Programmes (if this can be attributed/determined).
