United Nations Development Group unite and deliver effective support for countries
UN Sri Lanka organized a joint communication workshop from 1-5 March in Colombo with facilitation by DOCO Strategic Communications Specialist, Michael Kovrig, and UN Tanzania RC Office Communications Specialist, Mia Bulow-Olsen. The workshop included a three-hour strategy session with the UN Country Team and a four-day workshop for 18 UN Communications Group members. The key documents for the workshop are below.

By the end of the workshop, the UNCG committed to work together to deliver the following:

1. Joint Communication Strategy - a short document clarifying the UNCG's objective of building the image of the UN in Sri Lanka and positioning it as a key partner for the country's transition from post-conflict recovery to long-term development.

2. Revised work plan with greater focus on surveying and analyzing audiences, writing key messages and stories, and an added planning calendar to help sequence communications and improve coordination between agencies.

3. Draft terms of reference for the UNCG and a set of task teams to work on different areas of joint communication.

4. A draft set of core messages about the UN system in Sri Lanka.

5. A set of story ideas about how the UN system is delivering, with specific staff responsible for generating and disseminating them.
