(Newser) – The next sound you hear will be the world’s tiniest violin playing for Julian Assange. The WikiLeaks founder’s Swedish lawyer has announced that he will lodge a formal complaint because—wait for it—it’s not fair that police documents surrounding Assange’s case were leaked to the media. “It puts Julian and his defense in a bad position,” he told a colleague, according to the Australian.

“I do not like the idea that Julian may be forced into a trial in the media,” he continues. “I do not know who has given these documents to the media, but the purpose can only be one thing — trying to make Julian look bad.” Other supporters complained that the Guardian, which has published many of Assange’s WikiLeaks reveals, should treat its top source better. But a spokesman for the paper said that was an argument that “all journalists would find ridiculous.”

Irony, sure. Hypocrisy, sure. He had it coming? Maybe that too. But there is a difference between leaking documents concerning one persons case, or what the governments are doing, no matter what this persons background is.

Didn't he say the people have a right to know the truth? Oh, yeah, I forgot he isn't making millions of dollars off his web site for selling this truth. Hey, Assange, why don't you just leak the facts of your own case on Wikileaks?

Leaking police documents IS a form of obstruction of justice, since it makes it much more difficult to hold a fair trial. That said, either you want transparency or you don't. I hope it's just his lawyer that is furious, not Assange, because that would be pathetic. But if I were Assange's lawyer, I'd probably be furious all of the time. What a shitty job.
