Littleton put the faux-crocodile leather purse up for sale on eBay with plans to donate the proceeds to Salvage Santa, a charity that donates Christmas presents to children in Bay County, FL., The Associated Press said.
"The idea was suggested to me and I thought it was a great idea," Littleton told The Walton Sun. "My purse has been cleaned out and I have my things in one of those boxes that reams of paper come in. It's very classy."
The purse has attracted remarkable attention consider Littleton's attempt to disarm gunman Clay Duke was completely unsuccessful.
Duke, 56, broke into a school board meeting in Panama City, FL on Dec. 14, saying he was angry that his wife had lost her job.
Duke ordered several people to leave the room. As he was speaking, Littleton crept up behind him.
She swung the bag at Duke's arm in an attempt to dislodge the gun. Duke kept hold of the weapon and pushed Littleton to the floor, she said.
"He points the gun at my head and says 'you stupid [expletive]'" Littleton told CNN.
A security officer later shot Duke, who then killed himself.
The purse attracted bids of more than $1,000 before eBay yanked the item, saying that it did not meet the requirements for a charitable listing.
Joe Moore, a TV anchor who was running the auction, said he was confident the purse would be back up for sale soon.
"I am working through the night to get that back on eBay," Moore told The Walton Sun.
Littleton inherited the purse from her 89-year old mother-in-law who said it was too heavy.
"I hope they get me a better purse," Littleton said. "It's going to get old carrying this box around."
