Don Van Vliet, a.k.a. musician, artist, and cult hero Captain Beefheart, passed away this morning of complications from multiple sclerosis at a hospital in Northern California. Perhaps best known for 1969's experimental classic Trout Mask Replica, Van Vliet leaves behind a long and storied legacy of challenging, thorny music. [Music Mix/EW]
