Laid-back, folksy tunes help set the mood at this gallery-store, where shoppers can browse home wares and knickknacks handcrafted by American artisans rather than mass-produced by overseas factory workers. The store’s ceramic, wood, and glass works range from functional furniture (an oak rocking chair) to more whimsical things like wrought-iron dog-bowl holders, glass ornaments and wind chimes, and massive, swirled-glass or scrubbed-up found-object sculptures for the living room or, if you have one, the lawn. Colorful handblown glass vases refract rainbows under the shop’s bright lighting and intricate wooden puzzle-boxes shaped like animals, hearts, and almost anything else you can imagine (golf bag, anyone?) are curious and fascinating. The gallery’s Sheraton Hotel location and the more recently opened Craft Museum Gallery are more high-end spaces that focus on custom orders. None of the stores is exactly what you’d call kid-friendly, but if there was ever a doubt, there are signs reminding customers not to sit on or touch things.
