Who knew that the greatest mysteries of outer space were locked deep in a Kansas salt mine? That's where documentarians Douglas Trumbull and David Larson happened to find seventeen minutes of deleted footage from Stanley Kubrick's 2001, and what's more, the film is said to be in pristine condition. (Speculation has it that the footage may have come from the nineteen minutes Kubrick cut after the movie's 1968 premiere.) The Blu-ray department over at Warner Bros. must be positively salivating.
