(Crain's)-- Navy Pier officials blame Groupon for a drop in revenue for its biggest annual festival, though they credit the daily-deal site for generating more traffic.

With Winter Wonderfest ticket sales up 12% in volume, but event revenue down about 8% so far, Navy Pier officials are reconsidering whether future partnerships with Chicago-based Groupon are worthwhile.

Groupon is awesome. Instead of blaming them, how about factoring in the fact that economy is terrible and people can't afford non-essent­ials like Winter Wonderfest­. Maybe THAT's why sales are down.

I think sales were up. It was revenue that was down.

Don't they have people that would have calculated this before making the deal? You know, to evaluate before hand if it would have been worth it? LOL

I'm sick to death of businesses complainin­g about GROUPON - you made the deal - if it backfired on you then you didn't do your due diligence. PERIOD. Give me a break. Don't offer a Groupon for Winter Wonderfest if you can't afford it. DUH! You're lucky if anyone goes to Navy Pier in the winter time for anything.
