Vogue editor Virginia Smith has denied any interest in leaving the magazine to become the new women's fashion director at Barneys. Reports surfaced yesterday that she was one of two front-runners for the position since new Barneys CEO Mark Lee fired longtime staffer Julie Gilhart on Monday, but today WWD reports that Smith "has no intention of leaving [Vogue]." This means that the other named candidate, Sarah Rutson, fashion director of Asian luxury retailer Lane Crawford, is the clear top choice for the spot. [WWD]
