An aspiring actor accused of allegedly killing his mother with a sword was officially charged with second-degree murder on Friday, the Associated Press reports. Michael Brea, who had small roles in 'Ugly Betty' and 'Step Up 3D,' was arraigned from a hospital prison. He is being held without bail.

Brea didn't speak at the arraignment nor did he enter a plea. In addition to second-degree murder, the actor was charged with criminal possession of a weapon after investigators found him with a three-foot sword in his bedroom. His mother, Yanick, was found dead in the bathroom.

Neighbors heard Brea yelling what they believed to be biblical passages and repeating the word "repent" during an argument the night of the murder. In an interview with the Daily News of New York that took place while in the prison ward, Brea said he'd been living in a private world filled with Masonic symbolism and black magic that led to the attack.
