In one of the most deft deflection moves we've seen recently, towheaded whistle-blower Julian Assange, the target of so many countries' wrath, condemnation, and at least one espionage investigation, told Time magazine that he thinks Hillary Clinton makes a good fall guy for the WikiLeaks controversy. In a Skype interview from an undisclosed location, Time asked Assange whether the secretary of State's firing or resignation would be "an outcome he desired."

"I don't think it would make much of a difference either way," he said. "But she should resign, if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations, in violation of the international covenants to which the U.S. has signed up. Yes, she should resign over that."

To be fair, what did Time think he was going to say? No, I'd like the bull's-eye back on my head? During the 36-minute interview, Assange took another jab at Clinton when asked about the "moral calculus" he used to justify publishing classified information.

"It's very important to remember the law is not what, not simply what powerful people would want others to believe it is. The law is not what a general says it is. The law is not what Hillary Clinton says it is."

Maybe he should have been directing that comment at Attorney General Eric Holder, who vowed to "close [the] gaps" in any laws that prevent the U.S. from prosecuting Assange, an Australian citizen.

The WikiLeaks founder also disclosed that the diplomatic documents are being released at about "80 a day" and will include other media partners. At that rate, we should be through the quarter-million cables, oh, about never. This is what you're doing with your winter. Get used to it.
