City Lures Chess Players Into Playground, Tickets Them for Being in Playground

On October 20, seven men were playing chess on some of those stone chess tables in Inwood's Emerson Playground when police officers stormed the area and ticketed them for violating park rules. Adults are not allowed to enter playgrounds if they aren't "accompanied by a child under the age of 12." It's a reasonable rule, meant to protect kids from predators. But then why did the city put the chess tables in the playground to begin with? Is that what the toddlers are into these days? [1010 Wins, NYP]
