More wedding bells for Jessica! The country singer-turned-reality TV star got engaged to her football player beau Eric Johnson. Her overbearing father, Joe, gave the happy couple his blessing, tweeting "May they have a lifetime of joy and happiness," but he's not quite as thrilled about her decision not to get a prenup. Jess had to fork over $10 million of her hard-earned money after her divorce from Nick Lachey in 2005.

Jessica Simpson has been a solid gold recording artist since she was 19 years old, but she’s also achieved a level of celebrity that stretches beyond pop music thanks to her bombshell figure and a personality that leaves people wondering whether she’s a dumb blond, or just enjoys playing the part.

Thanks to a series of hits, magazine covers and failed films, she always seems to be attracting attention. Whether it’s a change in recording style (from pop to country music), appearing in a Super Bowl TV commercial, or launching a successful business, the public loves Jessica (even when they love to hate her). She even became a source of controversy in the world of sports when her relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, led to speculation that she was distracting the star during the NFL playoffs.

Simpson was born in Abilene, Texas to a minister and psychologist father who would go on to manage her career. When she was 12, she tried out for The Mickey Mouse Club, the Disney show that launched Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’s careers, but she wasn’t chosen. At the age of 14, she recorded her first album for a Gospel label. While the record didn’t go anywhere, it brought enough exposure to land supporting spots at gigs for singers like CeCe Winans. She dropped out of school at 16 and was discovered by the legendary Columbia producer Tommy Mottola (Mariah Carey’s first husband).

Simpson’s first single, ‘I Wanna Love You Forever,’ became a Top 10 hit when it was released in 1999. Her first album, Sweet Kisses, which came out soon after, also went on to become a success, and soon she was touring with the boy-band sensation 98 Degrees. She started dating band member Nick Lachey while they were touring. The pair split briefly in 2001, but got back together and tied the knot in October 2002. It was a long time coming for the couple—Jessica, who grew up a devout Christian, vowed to stay a virgin until marriage.

Their relationship became a punch line when they starred in their own MTV reality show chronicling their domestic life, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. The show was a modest success thanks to Simpson’s ditzy antics, including mistaking tuna for chicken and thinking Buffalo wings were made from buffalo meat.

The faux pas made Jessica’s popularity spike even though her albums didn’t produce jaw-dropping numbers. In 2005, she made her feature film debut in The Dukes of Hazzard, which did relatively well. But her second film, Employee of the Month, the following year bombed and essentially put an end to her acting career. Her next two films fared even worse.

That year, Nick and Jessica officially split up after filing for separation in November 2005. Soon after, everyone started paying closer attention to her personal life thanks to romances with musician John Mayer, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. The media turned a huge spotlight on her once again when she was pictured wearing unflattering “mom jeans” and bloggers started to lay into her about her weight. The incident made her produce a reality show The Price of Beauty where she visited different countries to explore the extreme measures different cultures took for the sake of beauty.

Between spending time with her beau, former NFL player Eric Johnson, who became her fiancé in November 2010, and deflecting jokes about her weight, she continues to record. She also has successful clothing, accessory, beauty product and fragrance lines.
