Camerons release first pictures of newborn daughter

Prime minister's office releases pictures as Florence joins family at Downing Street

The first pictures have emerged of the prime minister with the latest addition to clan Cameron - Florence Rose Endellion.

While politicians are often reviled for their baby-kissing antics to garner popular approval, David Cameron can probably be forgiven for sharing a tender moment with his own daughter.

Florence joins siblings Nancy and Arthur at No 10, along with their mother, Samantha, who is reportedly recovering extremely well after the delivery.

Weighing 6lb 1oz, Florence was delivered by caesarian section at the Royal Cornwall hospital in Treliske on Tuesday.

She had been due in seven or eight weeks, but took the couple by surprise while they were on a family holiday in Cornwall.

When Samantha Cameron announced her pregnancy before the election, many thought it was just the 'bump' (sorry) the Tory leader needed to win the election. Matters took a slightly different course of events, as I'm sure the PM himself could attest.

Florence becomes the second child born to a serving leader in a decade after Leo Blair in 2000, who was the first legitimate child born to a serving prime minister in over 150 years — since the birth of Francis Russell in July 1849.

Since he's released the photos to the press - no I don't think he can.

This man is determined to destroy everything that matters to me about being British. No amount of baby photographs will change that.

Beautiful photo. Congratulations to the Camerons, enjoy the rest of your holiday, because you have a mountain of work to do when you return, trying to get this Country back off its knees after the last disastrous 13 years.

Don't worry FatFrank, she'll probably be quite bright, do well at school, and end up with a job where she'll pay enough tax to cover 2 - 3 diversity co-ordinators who can draw a salary in return for voting Labour...

Very cute, but the best stage is when they're crawling and being taught to blow raspberries, IMHO. Its great when they do this on supermsarket trolleys and the mother tries to stop them. Why they do this I dont know.

    Congratulations Mr Cameron!!!.
I think he and Mr Clegg deserves a chance. They found the country in tatters, and they doing what they can.

Yes, who could not admire the sheer opportunism of taking the country's ills out on a public service that they were looking to completely dismantle regardless of the state of the economy.

Nothing to do with the indefatigable greed of the banks, was it? It was all the bloated public sector's fault.

'' This man is determined to destroy everything that matters to me about being British''

I'm afraid it's too late for that. BLiar and McBuffoon have beaten him hands down in that particular game.

    (Or were you being sarcastic?)

Nice photo - congrats to the Camerons.

In the spirit of the legendary game of football between German and English troops during Christmas in 1914, I am suspending hostilities until next week.

    Enjoy the long weekend.

The cynicism of some comments here is quite depressing. Can we please leave politics aside for one bloody minute?

Congratulations to them both on the birth of a beautiful and healthy baby.

Why publish this at all? He is a divisive politician, causing misery to many.

What a laugh. You who laud Cameron and Clegg and living in a fantasy world, I bet your where wealth insulates you from normality.

Cameron is a rich man, cutting jobs, cutting benefits and cutting poorer people's lives up.

Jeez - you really think the appearance of this photo on a national newspaper website isn't pure poltics?

@Rwdlan "The cynicism of some comments here is quite depressing. Can we please leave politics aside for one bloody minute?"

No. People are fed up with the poverty that a Tory government brings.

And if you don't think that is true, 1980s - 2010 have been the least fair wealth distribution in the UK since 1970s. Only Brown tried to reverse that.

Congrats to one and all, but isn't this a bad example to set? More than two sprogs per couple leads to overpopulation. We in the developed world have to show some restraint when it comes to future generations. Just a thought in the midst of all the celebrations.

Sorry.....but nobody complained when Gordon Brown walked out of Downing Street whith his better half and wonderful two children...
Maybe we should take @Manzanis' advice.
    Have a good Bank Holiday............

P.S. I'm not a zombie ... thank you very much.

No I don't. Of course some impressionable people may look at it and think "Aww bless", but if you can't comprehend that there's a minute chance he wants to show the world that he's a proud and doting father, then I pity you.

As deceptive as appearances may be at times, he's still only human.

No amount PR crap will ever persuade me to support this idiot.

The poor are set to get even poorer as a direct result of the vicious and elitist policies of this monstrous coalit....

Aw, a wickle baby! What were we saying?

As a human I wish them all the best however, regardless of politics.

I'm glad to hear that, no amount of PR crap will ever persuade me to support him either.

But I find it sad that people can't just leave his politics out of it and be pleased for the man on what is evidently a very happy occasion for him.

Apparently the Parish Church of Endelienta was named after St Endellion. The 13th century Church somehow escaped abolition in 1546. Did rather better than our NHS then.
