The Election Game is the only international election prediction game on the web. The Game Portfolio features 31 countries, plus a further six on the “subs’ bench”. The Game is a dynamic championship – each game is a contest in its own right, but players also earn ranking points from every game which count towards the annual race for the Championship.

The UK game results are available here – many thanks to everyone who took part, and congratulations to overall game winner Graham, Part A & B winner Ben R, and Part C winner Matthew, who won the constituency section by over 12,000 votes – a massive margin and a bravura performance. Full detailed results from the BBC are available here.

    Round 2 - Hungary & Austria

We now have the near-final results for Hungary and Austria, with the former now 98% counted and the latter all counted bar postal ballots – both countries having all but completed their counting within two hours. Results are as expected, with Fidesz securing a two-thirds majority of seats in Hungary, while in Austria President Fischer is re-elected with about 79% of the vote, with a clean sweep of every single commune in the country.

Detailed results for the Game (Round 2 of the 2010 Season) and for the elections themselves are available below. The Cup results are also available – the top eight players in Austria go forward to the quarter-finals in the UK. Many congratulations to JD who won Hungary with a penalty score of just 10 seats, finishing ahead of Terry, Geoffrey, and Sam G, while in the Cup, Christine was only 0.12% out (although the final result may alter after the postal ballots) with her Fischer prediction.

The Czech Republic will wrap up Round Two (the “Habsburg” double-header game) at the end of May.

    The Game's Spring Collection

The Election Game’s “Spring Collection” sees six separate elections featured in the next three months, with our strongest focus on the UK General Election, and also a debut game for the Netherlands in June, following the recent collapse of the Dutch government.

The list of “forthcoming attractions” is as follows: Hungary Sunday 11th April (second round Sunday 25th April), Austria Presidential Sunday 25th April, United Kingdom Thursday 6th May, Philippines Presidential Monday 10th May, Czech Republic Friday 28th May (and Saturday 29th May), and the Netherlands Wednesday 9th June.

These will appear in the Championship as follows: Round 2 Hungary & Czech Republic, with Austria as tie-breaker, Round 3 United Kingdom, and Round 4 Netherlands with Philippines as the tie-breaker. As with Chile in Round 1, we’re taking the opportunity to give another country from our B-List a cameo appearance in Round 4.

At the moment, it appears as though Canada will not make an appearance this spring, with Ignatieff’s Liberals ducking the chance to bring down Harper’s minority Conservative government over the Budget, although an autumn election there is a definite possibility if the Liberals feel that they are ready to govern by then. As ever, Canada should always be watched closely!
