I get a little nostalgic for school (particularly high school) when the Summer comes to an end — something about the supplies at the drug store, kids in new gear, or the memories of carefree teenage Summers. I am proud to admit I was always an A-student (come on, I'm SavvySugar!), but my fella (who is successful and crazy smart adult) says he snoozed through school and got mostly Bs and Cs. While good grades can open doors, we all know by now that they by no means make or break an adult in the working world.

Education and intellectual growth shouldn't stop when the final bell rings and you walk across the stage to accept your diploma. Continuing brain development, mastering your chosen field, and sharpening your reading comprehension should be lifelong projects. Not only will it keep your brain active and sharp, but you'll have a leg up on the competition.

Students and the unemployed may covet the nine to fiver's paycheck, but any working adult will tell you she misses having a real Summer break. There's nothing like the relaxed recess between semesters — even if you have to intern or clock in somewhere. Three whole months of glorious time (or at least weekends) spent at the beach, movies, on vacation with the family and escaping the tough stuff.

Graduation season is finally here and the students who have forged through all that hassle for the tassel are met with a whole new world of concerns and uncertainty. Some will find jobs right away while others search for months and years. Some will earn more than their classmates from their first paycheck and others will find themselves working a job outside their planned field.

Graduation season is upon us and students at colleges and universities across the US find themselves saying sayonara to school, books, and teachers' dirty looks, and hello to the rough job market and the grind. Do you think those students studied more or less than college-goers in the 1960s? Place your guesses here!

I recently joined fellow alumni and current students for a career and networking reception thrown by my alma mater. It's hard to believe so much time has passed between my college days and now — I certainly don't feel that much older. Still, I found myself on the answer end of the question-and-answer session between soon-to-be college graduates and alumni giving career advice.
