Mop:
A barbeque term referring to a wet sauce that's applied to meat with brushes or spray bottles to ensure moisture while cooking. It usually contains some form of acidity - such as lemon juice or vinegar - to tenderize the meat.

1Basting Im guessing is reapplying the juices that come from the meat during the cooking process.

2I think the term "Mop" comes from how big BBQ pit masters use an actual trimmed mop to coat the meat. You can get mini versions at kitchen stores
we prefer a silicone brush though.
