As we mentioned earlier, we'll spending the bulk of this weekend attending the second annual SF Chefs, a gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, and other individuals respected in the food industry. To get you excited for our upcoming coverage of the festival, I thought I'd quiz your knowledge of Fog City's top chefs and dining establishments. I'll name the celebrated chef, and I want you to try to guess his or her signature restaurant.

I'll start off by saying that pairing wines with food can be subjective. But over the years we've talked or listened to many culinary experts and sommeliers — from Rick Bayless to Peter Marks.
At tastings, festivals, dinners, and food events like the Food and Wine Classic, these authorities have shared their knowledge of the art of wine pairings.

I'll admit it: it's hard to get over the reality that it's only Tuesday, and Hump Day hasn't even passed yet. That's why I've got to find other excuses to celebrate the moment — like today marking the holiday that is National Watermelon Day! Follow in my footsteps and celebrate over a colossal pitcher of watermelon sangria, or by making one of our favorite unconventional watermelon recipes.

If you live in a major city and head to your favorite watering hole, you might be surprised to find the best bartenders missing. Why? Because they're all in New Orleans for a little shindig known as Tales of the Cocktail!

Summer isn't just peak time for international travel — 'tis also the season for the ever-popular state fair. Although county and state fairs first began as exhibitions of livestock, they've quickly morphed into a catch-all celebration with local performers, amusement rides, carnival games, crafts competitions, and, of course, signature fair food as well. You may be well-versed in ordering elephant ears and garlic fries, but how many tidbits do you know about state fair food?

Liberté, egalité, fraternité: Good morning and Happy Bastille Day! Today marks the 130th anniversary of France's national holiday, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille, which began the French Revolution. While Parisians celebrate with fireworks and parades, I'll be starting my day off on the right foot with a pain au chocolat and a café au lait (and ending it with a glass of Burgundy or Beaujolais, no doubt).

Today isn't merely Friday, it's also the birthdate of Diet Coke! It's said that on July 9, 1982, The Coca-Cola Company introduced the world to the sweet (but sugar-free) beverage, which became a fast favorite — and today it's 28 years old. To celebrate, we're going to break open a Diet Coke (OK; I admit to doing this regularly!), and we're tossing around fun facts about the beverage.

If there's one incredible thing about food memory, it's that a singular, mind-blowing taste can bring on a flood of musings, cravings, and memories. Such was the case in Aspen, where we enjoyed a thoughtfully curated crawfish lunch, hosted by Louisiana chef John Besh. I left dreaming of when I could pay a visit to New Orleans to finally try the city's legendary Cajun and Creole cuisine.
