New Labour RIP

Top Chum Eric Pickles gets the plaudits for his croquet moment against John Prescott on Today this morning, but we should also note his key point: New Labour is dead. Its passing has been foretold of course, and not just by the slipping off-stage of the likes of Alan Milburn, Greg Pope, Stephen Byers and others who see no future in a Brownised party. The cave-in on post office reform was another clue that the project has ceased to be, as was the end of the cross-party consensus on the 40p ceiling. Gordon Brown’s gleeful attack on Mr and Mrs Cameron’s choice of school for their boy Dave was not somethign you would have ever heard from Mr Tony. And Peter Mandelson’s admission this week that yes, in fact, he would have quite fancied becoming Le Grand Poux-Bas of the EU, was a reading of the last-rites by the high priest of New Labour. If next week’s PBR is as grim and wealth-focused as I believe, then all that’s left to do is organise the funeral. The Conservatives will suggest May 6 as a possible date.

  • Old Labour never went away. For example, Brown started with IR35 in 1999 as an attack on ‘rich’ freelancers who didn’t fit with his dark satanic factory view of modern employment.

He has never believed in flexible & free markets and never will.

This time, it wears blue. As in
“What’s Blue, Green and Red all over?”

    Cameron’s Tory Party.

  • Aramis is right about old labour not going away, in fact none of the “ism’s” have gone away. It has been well aired in these blogs that communism under a different name is reigning in the EU right now.If Cameron is eager to be a part of that lot, what does it say about him? Maybe he is willing to discard former ideals to obtain a piece of the action in the new world order?

I presume by that you mean Darling and Brown’s plans to steal what little amounts of wealth we individuals have left. Just how they have destroyed the wealth of this country is surely worthy of long prison sentences.

You want more difficult? I refer you to the task that I set you on the PMQs blog. That seems to have given you a bit of a problem.
