    Carolyn McCall Carolyn McCall was appointed Chief Executive of Guardian Media Group plc and chair of Guardian News and Media in August 2006. Carolyn was first appointed to the GMG Board in 2000, having served on the Guardian News and Media Board since 1995, becoming its chief executive in 2000. Carolyn is chair of Opportunity Now.
  • Tim Brooks, Managing Director

    Tim Brooks Tim Brooks joined as Managing Director of Guardian News and Media in September 2006. He was formerly Managing Director of IPC ignite! Tim is a highly experienced Managing Director with an international media and publishing background. He was co-founder and launch editor of Media Week magazine, launched a successful publishing business in Australia, and then spent nine years in senior management at Emap plc, including Network Managing Director within Emap's UK business and Executive Director of Emap Digital. In 2000 he joined the Board of IPC Media as Managing Director of IPC SouthBank, responsible for 14 leading consumer titles including Marie Claire and Ideal Home. In 2003 he became Managing Director of IPC ignite!, IPC Media's men's lifestyle and music division, with titles including Loaded, Nuts, NME and Uncut. Tim is chair of the Newspaper Publishers Assocation Limited.
  • Alan Rusbridger, Editor-in-Chief, Guardian News and Media

    Alan Rusbridger Alan Rusbridger was appointed Editor of the Guardian in 1995, after 20 years on the paper, during which he launched Weekend magazine and the G2 tabloid section. Alan was appointed to the Board of the Guardian Media Group in 1994. He is Executive Editor of The Observer, and a member of the Scott Trust. He has long been a campaigner for libel law reform, freedom of information and for a British republic.
  • Emily Bell, Director of Digital Content

    Emily Bell Emily Bell was appointed to the GNM Board as Director of Digital Content in September 2006. She was formerly Editor-in-Chief of Guardian Unlimited. She has responsibility for digital content development across all platforms and spearheads the expansion of GNM's web, audio and video services as part of GNM's global digital strategy. Emily is widely regarded as one of the UK's leading digital thinkers.
  • Jon Cornaby, Director, Finance

    Jon Cornaby Jonathon Cornaby was appointed to the board in October 2009 after fulfilling various roles within the GNM finance department over the last 7 years. Prior to joining GNM Jonathon worked at HMV Media group and EMI records after qualifying as an accountant in 1996 with Ernst & Young.
  • Chris Elliott, Managing Editor

    Chris Elliott Chris began his career on regional newspapers before joining the Sunday Telegraph as General News Reporter in 1983. He became the paper's Home Affairs Correspondent a year later. He also worked as Chief Reporter for the Sunday Correspondent and Assistant News Editor for the Times before joining the Guardian's newsdesk in 1995. Chris was promoted to Executive Editor in 1998 and to his present role of Managing Editor in 2000. He also represents the Guardian on the International News Safety Institute board and sits on the Society of Editors' Parliamentary & Legal Committee.
  • Sheila Fitzsimons, Executive Editor and Head of Editorial Development

    Sheila Fitzsimons Sheila Fitzsimons was appointed to the GNM Board in March 2009. She joined the Guardian in 1990 to work on the launch of the Education G3 and later became a news editor and then the business news editor at the Observer. Sheila played a key role in the creation of the Guardian and Observer Archive and Visitors Centre which launched in 2002. Editorially she led the project to move the Guardian and Observer to Berliner format in 2005 and 2006. More recently she managed the editorial integration process and editorials move to new premises in Kings Place in December 2008. She is responsible for editorial strategy across print and web and has overall accountability for the editorial budget.
  • Adam Freeman, Director, Consumer Media

    Adam Freeman Adam Freeman was appointed as Director, Consumer Media at Guardian News & Media in November 2009 following a two and a half year career as the company's Commercial Director. During this time, he also took on the role as General Manager, Digital and has been closely involved for some years in the growth and success of guardian.co.uk and guardianjobs. He has been a member of the GNM board since September 2006 and his remit is to manage consumer focused commercial activities. These include display advertising sales, newspaper sales, marketing, customer insight and reader offers, along with the P&L performance of the Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk. Adam also spent 2 years as the sales and marketing director of online retailer, eMagazineshop.com and is a member of the AOP, IAB and NMA boards. Adam lives in Kingston Upon Thames with his wife, 3 children and dog. His interests outside work include coaching rugby, all sorts of gadgets and generally trying to keep up with his kids. His motto is 'don't take yourself too seriously because no one else does…'
  • Derek Gannon, Chief Operating Officer

    Derek Gannon Derek joined GNM in 1987, and has held a number of roles within GNM in both IT and production. Derek was appointed to the Board in March 2001 as IT Director and is responsible for setting the technical, development and support strategy for the company. In March 2004 he was made Operations Director. Derek was also the project Director for the Guardian format change to the new Berliner size. In his new role Derek has oversight of all the support functions in the business: Technology; Workplace Managementt; HR, the Organisational Development Unit; Commercial, Legal, and Internal Communications. He also managed the overall project for the move to Kings Place.
  • Colin Hughes, Director, Business and Professional

    Colin Hughes Colin Hughes is Director, Business & Professional of Guardian News and Media, the B2B division that focuses on services to the media, education and public service professionals. Having started his career as a journalist at the Sheffield Star in 1979, he worked at the Press Association and The Times before joining the Independent in 1986 as a Political Correspondent. He went on to become Policy Editor, Education Editor, and US Correspondent, and spent his final six years at the Independent as Managing Editor of the Independent and Independent on Sunday, and Deputy Editor of the Independent. Colin joined the Guardian in 1998, and founded Learnthings Ltd, the Guardian's digital learning business, in February 2000. He was appointed MD of Guardian Professional in March 2006.
  • Andrew Miller, Group Chief Financial Officer, Guardian Media Group

    Andrew Miller Andrew joined the GNM board in 2009. Previously, Andrew was Group CFO of Trader Media Group, which is jointly owned by GMG and Apax Partners. He has also worked at Pepsico, Bass plc and Proctor and Gamble.
