Fashion Show Taggers
Description: New York Magazine's website (nymag.com) is seeking fashion-knowledgeable freelancers to work in September.  Preparation work will begin immediately. Before applying, please note that only candidates who can work late night (7 p.m. to 2 a.m.) or full days (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) during Fashion Week will be considered.  No school credit will be granted.  Freelancers will assist editors throughout the week. Duties include: sorting and organizing show images, "tagging" images by attributes (type of clothing, model, etc.), finding photos for stories, and other production tasks. Previous editorial experience is a plus. Good computer skills are required. A thorough understanding of fashion, including models, trends and garments, is necessary and will be tested before offer is extended.
Dates: Immediately through mid-to-late September. During Fashion Week (Sept. 5th through Sept. 12th, we need full-time hours; before and after fashion week, part time hours.)
Salary: $7.15/hr during the day and $15/hr during the night.

Information Architect/User Experience Design Lead

Description: Nymag.com is looking for an information architect/user experience designer to play a fundamental role in shaping the site’s wealth of content (listings, reviews, user reviews, essays, service pieces, blog posts, video, and photography) into an experience that serves the user exceptionally well while addressing core business needs.

The information architect will head up the logical design effort for new projects as well as lead the ongoing analysis, improvement, and maintenance of the site's organizational and navigational foundation. We’re looking for a user advocate who is comfortable working in all facets of what might be described as information architecture, including: collaborative development and documentation of project requirements, site-mapping, defining informational and navigational hierarchies/taxonomies, working with use cases and process flows, low- and hi-fi wire-framing, defining high-level interaction, and performing heuristic evaluations. The IA will work in concert with other members of the user experience, development, and project teams to ensure that user interaction concepts are executed as planned, and will lead the effort to build and maintain a UI pattern library.

Experience administering usability tests and performing path analysis is a plus, as are additional design or development skills. Also essential: excellent verbal and written communication skills, enthusiasm, curiosity, and flexibility.

This is a mid- to senior-level position reporting to the design director.

Creative Technologist/CSS Lead

The creative technologist, a core member of the user experience design team, works with the information architect and other members of the design and development teams to advance the usability, utility, and experiential elegance of Nymag.com. Responsibilities include:

• Creating and maintaining iterative XHTML wireframes, with clean and reusable code, from information architecture through to production-ready templates according to final visual design

This person also will coordinate software-quality assurance for all releases. Responsibilities include developer support, revision-control management, application installations, software testing (scripted and manned), and assisting in the upkeep of internal documentation repositories. The ideal candidate is a highly organized individual with software-development and system-administration experience who will be able to manage, tag, and test software releases with varied release cycles.

Qualifications: This is a hands-on position requiring the following:

• 2–3 years of system-administration experience in an enterprise Linux environment (preferably a RedHat Enterprise Linux 4)
• 2–3 years experience in managing or executing software-quality-assurance processes
• 3–4 years of software-development experience in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl) environment
• Experience with MySQL v.4.1 and v.5 is required. Exposure to database clustering a plus.
• Extensive experience with all aspects of the SDLC required, including methodologies such as iterative development, regression testing, and continuous integration
