Sci Fi Channel

Foundation date: 1992-09-24
About:
A sister channel of the USA Network, the Sci-Fi Channel was launched as a joint venture between then-partners Paramount Pictures and MCA, aimed towards fans of both the science fiction and horror/fantasy genres. Key advisors for the channel before and during its launch included Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and acclaimed sci-fi author Isaac Asimov.
Today, after years of different ownerships by Seagram and Vivendi, the Sci-Fi Network is currently a subsidiary of NBC Universal. Aside from classic sci-fi and horror movies, as well as reruns of sci-fi shows, the network airs original programming such as the new Battlestar Galactica and Stargate: Atlantis. As of 2006, Sci-Fi has also opened its timeslots to programs not related to the genre, such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Extreme Championship Wrestling.
Anime found its place on Sci-Fi in the 1990s through a Saturday morning block called Saturday Anime, which aired edited English dubs of AKIRA, Project A-Ko, Dominion Tank Police and Record of Lodoss War.
