It's only a half-hour long? That seems disappointing. I'd seen a couple commercials for it online, and it looks pretty interesting. At least now if I get to see it, I'll know that I shouldn't expect a whole lot of explanation. |

Oh man, I want to see this so badly. I am a bit disappointed to hear that it feels like a pilot episode though. |

man, this looks awesome. and you make the movie sound so interesting! my anticipation for the film must've just grown like x10 D:
Quote: | Fans who've been following anime for more than a decade tend to complain about the medium's current state of affairs. In Japan as well as America, in industry as well as hobbyist circles, the ones who witnessed the country's animated output peak and slowly fall into decline can at any moment be witnessed bemoaning its latest offerings, featuring tired genre retreads and relentless pandering. While there is certainly no shortage of people who like the new stuff, it's hard to escape that things aren't as inventive in this space as they once were. So seldom does a production come along that throws out the rules of the format, that cruises blindly past the deeply warn grooves of Japan's pulp storytelling, that when such a film does come along one scarcely knows how to react. |
i really have to disagree with you here. yeah the TV series' have lost creativity, but for anime films, like theatrical releases, there is still so much creativity and quality stuff. i mean yeah you have the movies that are clearly meant for a younger audience, but you can't discredit the anime film industry just because of that. it's just that with TV series it's like "yeah i've seen that before", but with anime movies it's like every single one looks incredible and interesting.
so i just don't think it's right to compare films to TV series. i'd say they're incomparable. |

I don't know what you're talking about, right now is a great time to be an anime fan. Thanks for the review anyway, I am heading to NY this Friday for this movie. |

The combination of straightforward cinematography, a blunt protagonist, and weird mecha battles sounds right up my alley. Definitely interested in seeing this. |

That's excellent. I'm really glad to hear that despite it's short running time this is something worth watching. This is the first time in a while I've really been looking forward to a new anime production. |

So they're screening it this weekend?
Well, not much going on with the panels this year so I may check this out instead of 'Eva 1.0'. |

uwah... only 30 minutes... with all the talk about it I was expecting normal anime movie length between 45 mins to just under 2 hours. hmm... much thought must be put into buying this when available... |

Eh? I have to join in with the people with the disagreement with the statement that anime has been going downhill in the past decade. If anything, nothing really changed: most anime is mediocre, a few are extraordinary and the rest crap. People really need to take off their nostalgia glasses because it is really affecting their judgement and I say this being an anime fan for 13 years and being brought up on 80's and 90's anime (which a majority wasn't all that great once I rewatch it again).
But Cencoroll looks promising. Too bad I'm not going to NYAF this year because I didn't enjoy it much last year because it was pretty boring outside of the awesome TM Revolution concert. And the song for it is pretty awesome. A bit shocked it's only 30 mins though. |

Did you mean 'naturalistic' in terms of cinema verite? Oh, film school, how you've cursed me...
This sounds like a cool project and a cool initiative. I'd rather have 10 inventive and striking short films to watch than 10 lackluster, knuckle-dragging shonen series to work through... |
