Kamikaze Douga's Amanatsu Anime Video Streamed

posted on 2009-04-03 06:05 EDT
Story about girl & her robot from animators for Namie Amuro, Ayu's music videos

The Kamikaze Douga studio has begun streaming a video for its Amanatsu anime short on its website. The project title comes from the name of a robot that a scientist creates in this near-future science-fiction story. The scientist, Sōichi Makimura, also developed the Amon perpetual motion machine that sustains the energy dome under which humans live their daily lives, 20 years after the last of the energy wars and environmental disasters had devastated the land. Makimura's 14-year-old daughter, Amane, has lived with Amanatsu since she was little. The story begins when Amanatsu grabs the key to the perpetual motion machine and sets off for the "end of the world."

Kamikaze plans to post a different version of the Amanatsu anime along with another anime short, The Last Piece, on the Japanese iTunes store at the end of April. Unlike the video on Kamikaze's website, the iTunes version will be set to the "River's Edge" song by the Japanese musical duo Nichika ("Genius Party" theme song for Studio 4°C's film anthology of the same name).

Kamikaze Douga earned media attention last month for co-animating the "Dr." music video from Japanese pop star Namie Amuro and Kamikaze's animation director Junpei Mizusaki (Kouchuu Ouja Mushiking Super Battle Movie: Yami no Kaizou Kouchuu, Mardock Scramble). It also worked on the "Connected" music video for pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki ("Ayu"), the opening and ending footage in the Freedom anime, and the animation footage in the Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions game. The studio showcased the "Dr." music video as well as Amanatsu and a 13-minute full version of The Last Piece at its booth at last month's Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009.
