ADV Licenses Moonlight Mile, Venus Versus Virus, Jing OAVs (Updated)

At their Friday afternoon Previews panel, ADV Films' Matt Greenfield and David Williams announced the first of ADV's new Otakon 2007 licenses: the space exploration drama Moonlight Mile, Venus Versus Virus (supernatural action with yuri undertones), and the three-episode King of Bandit Jing in Seventh Heaven OAV series.
Update: Studio Hibari's Moonlight Mile is a political science fiction drama about two space explorers who seek the answer to Earth's energy crisis on the moon. E.Y.E.S. of Mars director Iku Suzuki supervised this adaptation of Yasuo Ohtagaki's manga, and a second season is already planned in Japan for a September premiere. ADV has not finalized this work's release plans in North America.
The 12-episode Venus Versus Virus is another television series from Studio Hibari, except it places an unsuspecting girl in a battle against demons called Virus that threaten humanity. She gains the abilities to see these demons and joins the elite Venus Vanguard to protect her world from these monsters. Shinichiro Kimura (Burn Up Excess, Maburaho) directs this adaptation of Atsushi Suzumi's manga. (Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga for North America.) ADV plans to release this series on three DVDs starting November.
King of Bandit Jing in Seventh Heaven is the further video adventures of Jing, the most infamous thief in this fantasy world. Seventh Heaven is the ironically named prison complex that Jin and his partner Kir find themselves in. Before the two escape, they try to steal the Dream Orb treasure from a devious convict named Campari inside. ADV had previously licensed and released the King of Bandit Jing television series, which is based on Yuuichi Kumakura's manga (as published by Tokyopop in North America). Hiroshi Watanabe, director of the Slayers movies and Detective Loki, reunites most of the television series staff including character designer Mariko Oka (Detective Loki, Ghost Hound). The DVD containing all three video episodes will ship this November.

Decidedly for hardcore fans of the original show, the short running time and the forgettable nature of most of the shorts will be enough to make most fans hesitate before buying. However, two segments are compelling enough to make the disc a necessary purchase, in the end.
