Despite the occasional good laugh, the series usually plays better taken as straight drama and character study. It may not be the most purely entertaining series, but that makes it no less interesting to watch.
Whatever your reaction was to the first volume, the second and third volumes are unlikely to change it. They may reduce emphasis on action in favor of more scheming and character interaction, but everything that made the series what it was at the start is still there.
