Storage Networking: Critical Enabler of Server Virtualization
published by Brocade on Oct 13, 2008
The ability to react to rapidly changing market conditions is critical for success in business today. Applications that deliver services and drive revenue must be modified and brought into service more quickly. New applications need to be developed, tested, and released into production as rapidly as possible if organizations are to gain a competitive advantage. Companies are leveraging service oriented architectures (SOA) and composite applications to respond to dynamic business environments, but the effectiveness of these tools is still limited by a rigid legacy IT infrastructure that is often slow to respond. In order to get the maximum yield and efficiency from virtualization as an approach in IT, the infrastructure must also be services oriented with specific capabilities in support of virtualization in the architecture. Creating a robust data center fabric; an architecture that is flexible, scalable, data centric, and protocol independent that can be managed through a common interface is an important step. This architecture should also be able to support a best of breed approach for deploying intelligence where it can be best utilized.

Gap analysis:The case for data services
Data services gather and integrate data from many different sources in real time, bridging gaps to create consolidated information views while hiding data source complexity from applications. A data service approach makes data access and integration scalable by streamlining development and maintenance, whether applications speak Web services, SQL, or both.
