Singapore Grand Prix Friday Practice Gallery

We got to catch a bit a of tonight's this morning's Friday practice for the Singapore Grand Prix, and we've got to say that the track looks absolutely fantastic. Check out the gallery below for yourself, but from what we could see it feels like some fantasy street circuit straight out of a video game. The track's lighting system is working well too, with nobody resorting to headlights. Everyone was pushing pretty hard, but Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Felipe Massa have been the fastest so far. Of course, you can't assume too much from the practice sessions, as everyone is fiddling with their car's settings. Nonetheless, things are shaping up for a spectacular night race on Sunday.

GM Cancels Extra Cobalt Production Due To Parts Shortage

With small car sales exploding thanks to record gas prices, GM finds itself unable to build enough Chevy Cobalts to satisfy demand. Now a parts shortage is further complicating the situation. GM had planned to run a double shift this Saturday at the Lordstown, OH plant that assembles the Cobalt and Pontiac G5, but at least one unidentified supplier has apparently been caught flat-footed and unable to meet demand. Cobalt sales have been up about 10% for the year, but fell 27% in August, a decline GM blames on supplier shortages. Presumably G5 production is also affected, but Aveo clone enthusiasts can rest comfortably knowing that plans for the Pontiac G3 remain in full swing. [Marketwatch]

Saleen Dark Horse Mustang

Saleen Drops Dark Horse Mustang Into The Ring Ahead Of New Mustang Reveal In LA

With the upcoming debut of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the LA Auto Show, the existing enormous slate of special-edition Mustangs will be wiped clean, ready for a new crop. But not before a couple more special editions come out, like the Saleen Dark Horse. Only 25 of the 620 HP, supercharged, shaker-hood-scoop-intake-wearing Dark Horse Mustangs will be available, and above that, in a livery Henry Ford would approve of: black only. That black gets dropped over a full body kit with matte-black stripes tossed in for good measure. Your daily recommended allowance of "special edition" Mustang details below.

What Will The Auto Landscape Look LIke If Credit Dries Up?

If you're a WaMu banking customer, your bank failed last night. Don't worry, you're now Chase customers. This is just one of the ways that the major financial crisis we're in is impacting you. We were going to suspend blogging until the crisis was worked out, but Ray threatened a liquidity crunch if we tried. Our good friend UDMAN points out that, if we don't get a major bailout, credit could dry up soon. Given that few people purchase cars, motorcycles, recreational vehicles or any other vehicles with cash, how is this going to impact the automotive landscape? More »

Suzuki Wagon R Stingray

Suzuki Upgrades Wagon R With Stingray For JDM

Suzuki has launched a new Wagon R for the Japanese domestic market: the Wagon R Stingray. Built on a new platform that increases the wheelbase for enhanced stability, the Stingray retains the same 660cc turbocharged engine in order to comply with Kei-class regulations. The Wagon R has historically been the best-selling vehicle in that class, so now with more stability and a claimed decrease in interior noise levels, its sales should be boosted even further. The biggest change looks to be the aggressive new styling, which adapts a Scion xB-style front clip and impossibly huge air dam.

1981 BMW 315: 15,850 Deutsche Marks To Econo-Glory

We couldn't get the gas-sipping BMW 315 over here in Nordamerika; instead, we had to make do with the thirsty 320i version of the E21 platform. Over in Germany, however, the money saved on gas by the 315 facilitated drive-by Quaalude deals between wholesome-looking tennis players… or whatever the hell is going on in this ad. Key swapping?

Citroen Reveals Yet Another GT Concept Teaser

It's time for today's flash of Citroen side-boob as the French automaker teases us with yet another glimpse of the GT Concept set to debut at the Paris Motor Show next month. Here we have a rear three-quarter shot showing knife-edge taillights, a continuation of the gaping lower-body ductwork and some pretty meaty looking decklid gills. We'll go ahead and draw the logical conclusion that Citroen's supercar has a mid-mounted engine — we're just not sure what kind. Judging by those huge lower vents, we're thinking gas turbine. Huge, afterburning gas turbine. [via WCF]

ICON Builds An FJ43, FJ45 For SEMA

The Land Cruiser devotees at ICON have been blessing us with SEMA eye-candy for a couple years now, and it looks like they'll be showing off two new projects in Vegas for 2008. First up is an FJ43 Cruiser done up with coil suspension, Recaro seats and beefed-up axles and transfer case, all motivated by a 450 HP GM LS V8 engine. Icon will also be showing a custom FJ45 Long Bed, basically a resto with mild customization to bring it into the 21st century mechanically. We love these old Cruisers, and ICON always does a great job respecting the original design while updating where necessary, so we're looking forward to seeing these rides in person in October.
