The Amnesty International Report 2007 Website, including all information and materials contained on it (the "AIR Website") is managed by Amnesty International of International Secretariat ("Amnesty"), Peter Benenson House, 1 Easton Street, London, WC1X 0DW.

The terms and conditions set out below (the " Privacy Policy") apply in conjunction with the Terms of Use for the AIR Website.

Consent

Amnesty is committed to ensuring the privacy of all our users. This Privacy Policy governs all pages on the AIR Website. It does not apply to pages hosted by other organisations, including the websites of other Amnesty International sections or related organisations or third party sites. The AIR Website may be linked to the websites of such other parties but those other sites may have their own privacy policies which apply to them.

By using the AIR Website you consent to the terms of this Privacy Policy.  Amnesty may change the terms of this Privacy Policy from time to time and if such changes are made, we may place notices on the AIR Website so that you can be aware of them.  Your continued use of the AIR Website will be on the terms of this Privacy Policy as amended from time to time.

What types of information do we collect and store?

The type and amount of information we receive and store depends on how you use the AIR Website. You can access most of the pages on the AIR Website without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information.  Our web servers collect anonymous logs during user visits to the AIR Website.  This information is used to create aggregate statistics, for example about when the AIR Website is accessed, the pages which refer visitors to the AIR Website, the type of web browsers visitors use and which pages are viewed.  These statistics help us understand how the AIR Website is used and provide us with valuable information for improving it in the future.

We do not collect personally identifiable information (such as your name, address, phone number or e-mail address) on the AIR Website unless you choose to provide it, for example by choosing to buy the Amnesty International Report 2007 (the "Report"), expressing an interest to join or donating to Amnesty International or subscribing to our email updates. Personal details you submit through the AIR Website are kept confidential and are stored securely only for as long as they are required for the purpose for which they were given. The information you provide will not be sold or rented nor will it be shared with third parties unless we have your permission, or are required to disclose the information by law or under the following circumstances:

1. Joining Amnesty International: if you choose to join, have expressed an interest in joining Amnesty International or subscribing to our email updates, we may share your contact details with your local Amnesty International office. That office may then send you information about activities carried out by it and by Amnesty International in general.

2. Hosting and processing: the AIR Website is hosted by a third party service provider. We may also use third parties either to process expressions of interest to join Amnesty International, process donations to Amnesty International on our behalf or process and forward mailing information for users who choose to subscribe to our email updates, or to process orders for the Report.  All of these third party services providers will process your personal information only on Amnesty's behalf and are bound by strict confidentiality conditions.

3. Payment processing and fraud: Your card details may be disclosed to banks to arrange payments. In the case of a suspected fraudulent transaction, your details may be disclosed for the sole purpose of performing further checks.

How do we use information collected?

Your e-mail address and other personal information will be retained by Amnesty (and where applicable other offices of sections of Amnesty International) and its service providers in a secure environment, and will only be used to fulfil your orders for the Report, action your expression of interest in joining Amnesty International and provide you with information about Amnesty International and activities carried out by it (including Amnesty International's local offices or other sections), process your donations to Amnesty International, and to send you email updates where you subscribe to them.

Personal information submitted to the AIR Website may be stored and processed on servers in the United States. The United States may not have data privacy laws as strong as those in force in the European Union and some other countries. Processing of your information by Amnesty and its service providers will however be regulated by UK data privacy law and protected by appropriate security measures.

Use of cookies

A cookie is a text-only piece of information that a website transfers to your computer's hard disk so that the website can remember who you are. A cookie will normally contain the name of the Internet domain from which the cookie has come, the "lifetime" of the cookie, and a value, usually a randomly generated unique number.

We use cookies on the AIR Website known as session cookies which are temporary cookies that are stored in your computer's memory and are deleted once you close your browser or after a period of inactivity, usually around 20 minutes.  These cookies may for example control the behaviour of automatic pop-up windows to ensure that such windows do not pop up every time you visit the relevant page. Instead, once you have visited a page which contains an automatic pop-up window, a cookie may be deposited on your computer to ensure when you next visit the page the pop up window does not appear. Cookies are not used by Amnesty to monitor you or your movements across the AIR Website.

To prevent the download of cookies, or otherwise control how cookies are used on your computer, please read the help information supplied with your Internet browser software or go to: www.allaboutcookies.org
