Gun control and the Virginia massacre

I've just arrived in Roanoke, near Blacksburg, Virginia, to cover the horrific campus shootings yesterday that left 32 dead, plus the murderer, making it the worst mass shooting in American history. An almost unimaginable carnage.

Already, before even basic details about what happened have been established, both sides of the gun control debate are using the tragedy to advance their respective causes. Would banning guns in Virginia have made a difference? Would allowing guns on campus have given students some protection?
