General Bramwell Booth
Born in 1856, the eldest son of the Founder, William Bramwell
Booth was appointed Chief of the Staff by his father in 1880. On
12th. October 1882 he married Captain Florence Soper who was the
inaugurator of the Women's Social Work. Having been appointed by
his father, Bramwell assumed command of the Salvation Army upon
the Founder's death in 1912. He was appointed a Companion of
Honour shortly before his promotion to Glory from Hadley Wood on

General Edward J. Higgins
Edward Higgins was born on 21st. November
1864 at Highbridge, Somerset. He commenced Officer Training in
June 1882, and upon completion he was appointed to Durham corps.
in 1888 he married Captain Catherine Price, and in 1896 he was
appointed Chief Secretary of the U.S.A. 1919 saw the now
Commissioner Higgins serving as Chief of the Staff, a position he
held until 1929 when he became the first General of The Salvation
Army to be elected by the High Council. General Higgins retired
from active service in 1934 and was promoted to Glory on 14th.

General Evangeline Booth
Evangeline Cory Booth was born on 25th.
December 1865, the fourth daughter of the Founder. Her first
command was at Marylebone Corps at the age of 21. Following a
period in charge of Officer Training, she was appointed Commander
of the U.S.A., a position she held until 1934. Eva Booth was
elected General of the Salvation Army by the second High Council
in 1934. She retired from active service in 1939, and was promoted
to Glory on 17th. July 1950 at the age of 84 Read

General Albert Orsborn
Albert Orsborn was born on 4th. September
1886 at Maidstone, Kent. He offered himself for officership in
1905 at Clapton Congress Hall where his parents were Corps
Officers. After some time serving in corps and divisions
throughout the U.K., in 1933 he was appointed Chief Secretary in
New Zealand. He returned to the U.K. in 1936 and was appointed
British Commissioner in 1940. In 1943 he received the C.B.E. from
King George VI. The fourth High Council elected Albert Orsborn as
General on 9th. May 1946, and he assumed command on 21st. June.
General Orsborn retired from active service in 1954, and was
promoted to Glory on 4th. February 1967 Read

General Wilfred Kitching
The son of Salvation Army officers,
Wilfred Kitching was born on 22nd. August 1893. He entered
Officer Training in 1914 and upon obtaining his commission
was to serve for over 30 years in the U.K. Territory. In
1929 he was married to Adjt. Kathleen Bristow. In 1951 he
was appointed British Commissioner, and was elected
General by the 5th. High Council meeting on 11th. May
1954. He assumed command on 1st. July and served until
retiring from active on 22nd. November 1963. General
Kitching was promoted to Glory on 25th. April 1977. Read

Frederick Coutts
Frederick Coutts was born on 21st.
September 1899 at West Gallatown, Kircaldy. He entered the
International Training Garrison at Clapham on 7th. October
1919, receiving his commission on 20th. May 1920.On 17th.
November 1925 he married Lt. Bessie Lee and they were
appointed to Chatham, Kent. Frederick Coutts was
elected General by the sixth High Council on 1st. October
1963, and assumed command on 23rd. November. He retired
from active service on 20th. September 1969, and was
promoted to Glory on 6th. February 1986 Read

Arnold Brown
Arnold Brown was born in London on 13th. December 1913. In
1923 the Brown family emigrated to Canada and made their
home in Belleville, Ontario. Arnold was accepted as a
cadet in the1934-5 'Toilers' session at the training
College in Montreal. In 1939 he was married to Lieutenant
Jean Barclay, and continued to serve at T.H.Q. until being
posted to I.H.Q., London in 1964. He returned to Canada as
Territorial Commander in 1974, and was elected General by
the ninth High Council on 5th. May 1977 assuming command
on 5th. July. General Brown retired from active service on

General Eva Burrows
Eva Burrows was born On 15th. September 1929
in Queensland, Australia, and was commissioned a Salvation Army
Officer in 1951. Until 1967 she served in various positions at the
Howard Institute in Rhodesia and was then appointed to the Usher
Institute. In 1970 she began a five year term at the I.C.O. in
London and after other appointments returned to Australia as
Territorial Commander in 1982. The eleventh High Council elected
Eva Burrows General on 2nd. May 1986, and she assumed command on
9th. July. General burrows retired from active service on 8th.
July 1993 and she returned to Australia to live in Melbourne Read
