This was the first stamp issued to be related to The Salvation Army. When withdrawn from sale the charity premium had raised 24,073.12 Dutch Florins for Salvation Army welfare work in Indonesia. An advertising leaflet measuring 240mm by 170mm, illustrating the set of four stamps was produced and distributed by the Post Office.

Special machine slogan postmarks were issued to stimulate the sale of the stamps. Fig.1 was used at Bandoeng and Soerabaja, and Fig.2 at Batavia and Batavia Centrum. These postmarks must have been in use before the issue of the stamps as examples are known dated November 1932

The second issue to carry a charity premium for the benefit of The Salvation Army resulted in the sum of 18,947.97 being raised for Salvation Army welfare work in Indonesia.

Stamps from this set were widely used on covers sponsored by The Salvation Army, e.g. The League of Nations Conference, Bandoeng and several First Flight covers.
