Robert Christy

Robert Christy received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of British Columbia and his doctorial degree from the University of California.

During the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, Christy’s conservative implosion design for the core alleviated instability problems and was the basis for the plutonium bomb.

After Los Alamos, Christy worked at the University of Chicago and joined the California Institute of Technology, where over the past 50 years, he served in several capacities including professor, provost, and acting president.
