McDonald's will be offering Duel Masters cards in Happy Meals starting today, until February 24th. Three cards and a toy will be offered in each Happy Meal. Ghost in the Shell 2 DVD Replacement Program (2005-01-28 19:32:16)
Dreamworks has offerred a replacement program for their Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence DVD. A production error (not an intentional decision) caused early versions of the DVD to be produced without the intended subtitle tracks, but only SDH (subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired). Nausicaa.net has obtained an answer from Disney explaining why the My Neighbor Totoro DVD was delayed and replaced by The Cat Returns. According to Rick Rhoades of Disney, "[Totoro was delayed] due to technical problems with the DVD transfer. Year in Review Updates (2005-01-27 13:49:50)
Two small updates worth noting have been made to the Year in review. First, in the Anime on TV article, it was originally stated that The Anime Network's linear channel was on Comcast. This was incorrect. While TAN's VOD service is available from Comcast, the linear service is available in selected areas on Insight communications and Buckeye Cable. Secondly, in the anime convention article we stated that Onna was organized by the Shoujo Arts Society. Onna is actually a joint venture organized by Shoujo Arts and Yuricon. [ discuss (1 posts) ]

Scientists at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) have identified a new gene that, when aberrant, can cause cancer. They've named the gene POKEMON or POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor. Appleseed Box Office Update (2005-01-25 21:49:42)
15 of the 31 theaters showing Appleseed dropped the movie on January 20th, dropping its nation-wide theater count to 16. According to Box Office Mojo, Appleseed earned $16,386 in those theaters, an average of $1024 per theater, making it the 56th highest grossing movie this past weekend. According to Moon Phase Kids Station will broadcast the first two episodes of Stratos 4 Advance: Code 201 Wave Off on March 5th and March 27th respectively. According to Home Media Retailing Magazine, Nielson Videoscan has reported that anime accounted for 1.4% of the 2004 North American video releases. The Independant portion of the market, in which anime is located, did $1.84 billion in sales in 2004. Comparatively, the largest single distributor, Warner Bros., did $4.79 billion in sales in 2004. Bandai Visual Establishes US Office (2005-01-24 03:59:13)
Bandai Visual is establishing a subsidiary in California this month called, "Bandai Visual USA." The company will conduct US market research with the results being reflected in the production of new anime. According to the Nikkei Net article the company will also "sell DVDs of hit Japanese anime." The company is being set up with a capital of 1 Hundred Million Yen (US$972,000 Approx.) A preview of Pop Japan Travel the Manga is now online. The manga is a cross between a regular manga and a Japan survival guide, that has been written by "Japanese mangaka, professional American Anime otakus" and Digital Manga's Isaac Lew.
