Almost everything here is broken. Had an HD crash last week. Can't afford a new
one for a while but managed to stuff quite a bit into a much smaller drive. So things like mailing lists, phorun,
findabbs, and software database are still AWOL. Back issues via HTML should be available but not FTP. Site response is
slow because still depending on granitecanyon.com 'free DNS' until I can get the rest of bind ironed out.
Will be back and fully functional ASAP.

New 'Easy Link' To 'Current' Issue
Do you have a link in your web site to FidoNews? Do you want to link to
the 'current issue' without having to change the URL every week?
If 'yes' to both questions then http://www.fidonews.org/current/
is your answer. That address will always point towards the most current
issue of FidoNews. Thank you Malcolm Miles for the neat idea.
Have a :) day! jb |

The FidoNews at a Glance
From Warren Bonner this week, an article with some U.S. statistics
that gives some perspective on the last "One hundred years". Then we
have some interesting thoughts from former fidonet sysop Scott Royall,
"Is Fidonet Still needed?" -- a real food for thoughts article. Last
contribution, this week, to our general articles section also happens
to be the 15th and last day of our bike trip in Australia, the "2002
Off Centre Rally - The Big U".
In Warren's column he's getting a bit religious on us in a praise
of the women. "When God Made Women" is the headline of that article.
After that last one, the step to one of the jokes Warren sent us,
"The Divorce", isn't so far off, I think...

The FidoNews at a Glance
It seems like last week's drought may have been caused by a couple of
contributions getting lost on their way; more about this next week,
when I've caught up with all the pending mail after the holiday
vacation.
At least a bunch arrived properly this week, all of them from good
ol' Warren Bonner. But first out is day 14 of the "2002 Off Centre
Rally - The Big U" travel report, in the general articles section.
The four contributions from Warren starts with one for his own
column, called "Cherokee Teaching". A little story about native
American wisdom.
Then two for the jokes section. The first is "State Fair" about a
man and his wife that seem to have some disagreement over how well the
husband performs his matrimonial duties. The second is about another
(or maybe the same) man, who has to prepare for the burial of his
"Mother-in-Law".
Finally one for the classified ads, "My Web Page".
...and more.

Yet another dry week, I'm afraid. But we still have a couple of
episodes from the "2002 Off Centre Rally - The Big U", this week a
report from day 13.
From the archives comes a joke from Warren Bonner called "COMMUNITY
SERVICE". Maybe a little US specific, about how different people show
their gratitude.
...and more.

The FidoNews at a Glance
In a guest editorial this week, Frank Vest vents some thoughts about
articles not always appearing in the first available Snooze, this in
his "Spanking the Fidonews Editor. :)". Something that, of course,
cannot be left uncommented by this editor, in "Article submissions" I
try to explain some aspects of that issue.
The motorcycle travel in the "2002 Off Centre Rally - The Big U"
down under, now has reached day eleven.
In "The 12 days of Christmas", Warren Bonner writes about what
seems to be a Christmas carol. I must admit this editor doesn't
recognize it at all, but I guess it's about something that all our
Anglo-Saxon readers are familiar with. I got some associations to an
old song, about a soldier and his deck of cards, that were his Bible,
his almanac and something more...
Another one from Warren, in his own column, "Life is a PARTY" is I
guess, best described as autumn leaves.
More from Warren, "P H I L O S O P H E R", about how you can use a
bucket of water to measure your own importance.
And finally (yes you've guessed it), from Warren, a joke that's a
variant of a classic theme, "IMPOSSIBILITIES".
...and more.

The FidoNews at a Glance
Back to normal again this week. First out is "A Slanted Look at BBSs"
by Frank Vest. Does anyone still remember this thing called a BBS?
Then we've reached day ten of the "2002 Off Centre Rally - The Big U",
the trip around Australia article, sent in by David Drummond.
In a guest editorial, another one from Frank. A recommendation,
"Using the Fidonews". Someone who followed this recommendation is Todd
Cochrane, unfortunately it's a little late (it should have appeared in
last week's issue, but due to certain circumstances this didn't
happen. "FTSC ELECTION UNDERWAY" is the name of this article about a
current event.
Sent in as a joke, I thought "How kids used to live" was better
suited in Warren Bonner's own column.
Carol makes a sauce, mainly for cooking meat, she's named the
recipe "Lood Meat".
A child joke sent to me by Ward Dossche, "Doggy story" can be found
in the jokes section. I'm not sure if it was intended for the Snooze,
but here it is anyway.
And finally Frank makes a plug for "Collin County Station BBS" in
the classified ad's section.
...and more.

The FidoNews at a Glance
Day seven from our Australian travel report, "2002 Off Centre Rally -
The Big U", is a rather short one, but here it is.
In "The Future of Fidonet Standards", Michael Grant has some
thoughts about the FTSC and the role it may have played in the demise
of Fidonet, and also a suggestion on improvement, even if I think we
already have the corresponding function of the internet RFC in our
FSC.
Our cook Carol goes to Hawaii this week in "Xxcarol's Baked Fish,
Hawaii Type!". I don't think I would recommend such a long time in the
oven though, here in Scandinavia we prefer the fish very lightly
cooked, I'd settle for 10 minutes or less.
...and more.
