Welcome to Noggin

Noggin is a commercial-free, educational network — on TV and online — brought to you by Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop. It’s 24 hours of brain-boosting, idea-sparking, award-winning programs, created especially for kids 2-12.

Noggin challenges kids to think, create and discover new things, in their own way and at their own pace. On TV and online, Noggin presents ideas through thought-provoking programming and creative activities that encourage discussion. At every turn, Noggin inspires kids to become actively engaged in experiences that promote understanding and awareness.

Noggin celebrates kids and their natural urge to learn, solve problems and arrive at their own remarkable insights. Noggin’s integrated on-air and online network incorporates kids’ questions, ideas, artwork and animations, inviting them to be active participants in their own learning.

Noggin on TV

Drawing on Sesame Workshop and Nickelodeon’s combined 50 years of experience, Noggin’s programming schedule features a mix of signature educational series from the libraries of both networks, along with original and acquired series. Noggin’s 24-hour schedule is distinguished by dayparts programmed to appeal to preschoolers and school-aged kids. And since Noggin has no commercials, short-form programming fills out and links the schedule together. As an added bonus for teachers, Noggin programs can be taped off the air for classroom use and retained for a one-year period.

Noggin Online

Integrated with our television environment both visually and in our mission, Noggin’s online site, noggin.com, gives kids creative tools and features their ideas, questions, music compositions and creations, along with programming information, games and activities. By cross-pollinating television and the Internet, Noggin is one thinking place on two screens.

NOGGIN PROGRAMMING

Collectively, Noggin programs have won over 95 Daytime Emmy Awards, 20 Parents’ Choice Awards, 5 CableAce Awards, 4 Peabody Awards and a host of other national and international honors. (Wow!) Noggin’s schedule, featuring 40% original content, is packed with exciting adventures, new discoveries and wonderful characters that delight, entertain and inspire kids to use their noggins.

LONG-FORM PROGRAMMING

PRESCHOOL FAVORITES

Allegra’s Window

Allegra’s Window is a music-filled half-hour that looks at life through the eyes of a three-year-old. Featuring a combination of puppets and live-action characters, the series explores the themes and issues important to preschoolers, through story and song. At the heart of this original series is Allegra, a colorful puppet who shares the same emotional ups and downs as all preschool children. Whether she's anxious about her first day of daycare, saddened by the loss of her favorite stuffed octopus or having difficulty trying to keep a secret, Allegra uses her inquisitive nature, vivid imagination and practical resourcefulness to solve problems, make discoveries, have fun and learn new things. Helping Allegra along the way are her older brother Rondo, her best friend Lindi (a puppy) and other family, friends and neighbors who live and play in the musical world of Hummingbird Alley.

Blue’s Clues

Blue’s Clues is a breakthrough play-along show that allows its preschool audience to "step inside" and become part of a bright, fanciful world where the host, Steve, lives with his animated puppy, Blue. The audience actively participates in Steve’s daily routine and helps solve everyday problems, all within a context of entertaining games and activities. Blue’s Clues is designed to develop preschoolers’ thinking, reasoning and social skills through an educational approach called "flexible thinking," a theory that recognizes that children need to learn, not just what to think, but how to think for themselves. Blue’s Clues uses a play-along format, which encourages kids to actively participate in using the clues as they view the program.

The Busy World of Richard Scarry

The community of lovable characters that inhabit the pages of Richard Scarry's books are brought to life in this animated series. Based on Scarry's best-selling books, Busytown and Busy, Busy World, the series features such loveable characters as Lowly Worm, Huckle Cat, Hilda Hippo, Sgt. Murphy and Bananas Gorilla. Each episode is comprised of three short stories linked by shorter musical segments that teach kids basic safety tips and explain the inside story on how things work.

Franklin

Franklin is an irrepressible turtle who, together with his forest friends, works his way through everyday dilemmas. Like most children, Franklin often learns by making mistakes. Along the way, he discovers how he fits into the world and how the world fits him. When he fibs, gets lost or acts bossy, he usually finds solutions himself, learning lessons the Franklin way.

Gullah Gullah Island

Hosts Ron and Natalie Daise, a warm and loving African-American couple who live on a sea island off the coast of South Carolina, open their home to preschoolers and their caregivers with a rich mix of song, games, stories, dance and humor. The sing-along series stimulates active participation from viewers around such familiar topics as birthdays, jokes, baby animals, rhyming, collecting and preparing food. With the Daises and their three children at the heart of the show, a variety of friends, relatives, neighborhood children and a bright-yellow tree frog named Binyah Binyah Pollywog (a full body puppet) form an extended family with viewers. Each episode also features an exploration of the unique culture of the Sea Island region with an up-close look at the community and its people, including artists, fishermen, weavers and farmers.

Sesame Street

Since it aired in 1969 with lovable Muppets, memorable songs and endearing characters, the award-winning Sesame Street has been the most widely viewed preschool television series in the world. Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie are just some of the household names that have educated and entertained millions of viewers in over 140 countries. With enduring humor and sketches that work on many levels, Sesame Street continues to deliver a solid academic and social education that parents trust and children love.

OLDER KIDS’ TREATS

3-2-1 Contact

3-2-1 Contact follows a company of young hosts who investigate the different domains of science, exposing kids to aspects of the subject that might otherwise be impossibly remote. Mini-documentaries, music videos, animation and visits to men and women at the forefront of the field introduce children to the world of science and technology in ways that are inviting, exciting and, most important, easy to understand.

Big Kids

BIG KIDS, a live-action comedy series, explores what happens when parents and kids reverse roles. Twelve-year-old Kate and 14-year-old Simon are siblings who lead pretty average lives. That is, until their parents are placed under a spell that causes them to regress into childhood unexpectedly. When this happens, Kate and Simon find themselves parenting their parents while they search for ways to break the spell! With each hilarious experience, they gain insight into the complex and sometimes chaotic relationship between parent and child.

Bill Nye, the Science Guy

Honored with over 15 Daytime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Children’s Series, Bill Nye, the Science Guy stars former stand-up comic and science whiz Bill Nye. Cracking jokes and doing "whatever it takes!" to prove scientific theories, Nye challenges his viewers to, "Try it, don’t take my word for it." Whether he’s soaring through the air with the Blue Angels or dropping inside an active volcano from a helicopter, no stunt is too extreme for the Science Guy to prove how cool and exciting science can be. His series takes kids from the deserts of Arizona to the historic environs of Boston, to look at everything from fossils to farming to forensics. Each episode also features do-it-at-home experiments, which encourage participation from the whole family.

CRO

Dr. Cecilia and her assistant Mike discover a glacier containing a mammoth, Phil, frozen solid! After being defrosted, Phil narrates the tales of CRO, an inquisitive Cro-Magnon boy. CRO uses applied science and enlists the help of a highly intelligent group of mammoths to aid a blundering clan of Neanderthals. It’s an exploration of the Ice Age in an animated comedy/adventure format.

Doug

Doug Funnie is an 11-year-old boy who keeps a journal and dreams of superheroes. Accompanied by his canine pal Porkchop, his best friend Skeeter and his secret love Patti Mayonnaise, Doug embarks on a multitude of adventures, often thwarting the plots of the local bully, Roger Klotz. Doug ultimately succeeds in life in some wonderful and unexpected ways. He often imagines how one of his superhero alter egos would solve the problem, using wits instead of fists. This contemporary coming-of-age cartoon introduces the kind of social and emotional challenges faced by all children, and treats the situations humorously, to make it relevant to everyone.

The Electric Company

For 14 years, The Electric Company was a favorite among millions of viewers (probably even you!) with its playful and clever mix of reading fundamentals, live-action and animated segments. Mel Brooks, Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and Joan Rivers were just some of the featured celebrity talent over the years who gave life to Easy Reader and Letterman, to name a few. This unique series focuses on phonics using consonant blends, double vowels, punctuation, sight words and other phonetic tools to promote the development of early readers.

Ghostwriter

Ghostwriter is a mystery/adventure series designed to make reading and writing fun and rewarding. At the heart of the show is a team of six multicultural teens and pre-teens who work together to solve neighborhood mysteries with the assistance of a friendly ghost, Ghostwriter. Ghostwriter communicates only through written words, manipulating letters on computers, chalkboards, notebook pages, really just about anywhere. The key to the series is that each case cannot be solved without reading or writing skills, and all involve teamwork, research and deductive reasoning.

Nick News

Nick News is a news magazine series designed to educate young viewers about historical and current events. In each half-hour episode, veteran news journalist Linda Ellerbee encourages kids to look at the world around them and ask the important questions: "Who, What, When, Where and Why?" News segments are explained in terms kids can relate to, and often feature real kids who have been affected by the featured topic. Ellerbee emphasizes viewer involvement and closes each show with the message, "If you want to know, ask!"

The Phred on Your Head Show

The Phred on Your Head Show features Noggin’s first original character, Phred. The animated Phred hops onto a real kid’s forehead to host the show. (Of course he does!) Together Phred and his kid co-host introduce programming from both the Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop libraries, and highlight segments about real kids doing real things. All of Phred’s games — both on TV and online — encourage participation and foster interactivity between Phred, his co-host and the audience. It’s phun!

Square One TV

In an innovative magazine format, Square One TV takes the subject of math and presents it in a new and different way, drumming up enthusiasm among viewers. By presenting an educational spin on game shows and music videos and combining it with a variety of mathematical topics and concepts, Square One TV encourages children to incorporate problem-solving strategies into their everyday lives. It all adds up to something interesting!

URL with Phred

URL with Phred is where kids’ contributions take center stage and Noggin TV and noggin.com converge. Phred, Noggin’s first, original animated character, has been saving all of the creations, questions, jokes and letters kids have been sending to his home in the dot of noggin.com, so he can present them live on Noggin TV! Every day for one hour, URL with Phred wraps around two full episodes of programming to showcase patches, birthdays, riddles, radio beats, high scores, poll results, e-mails and more.

A Walk in Your Shoes

A Walk in Your Shoes takes two real people from completely different backgrounds and switches their lives, physically transplanting them into each other’s environments while the cameras roll. As the subjects express their thoughts and impressions on camera and in online diaries on noggin.com, they learn to appreciate diverse perspectives and get a firsthand look at how people from different backgrounds and experiences see the world.

Wild Side

Hosted by two kids, this adventure show takes viewers along for up-close and personal encounters with animals, both in zoos and in their natural habitats. The kids swim with sea lions off the coast of Mexico, stalk grizzly bears in Yellowstone Park and learn about unusual animals, such as the Slender-Tail Meerkat. Wild Side fosters a sensitivity towards animals and respect for their environment.

Kids submit their ideas for Headbuzzers online, and Noggin transforms them into animated puzzles and presents them on Noggin TV.

I Am Poem

Noggin brings kids’ poems to a new level of artistic expression by enlisting fine arts professionals — including dancers, photographers, puppeteers, animators, artists and filmmakers — to interpret the young poets’ words through a visual medium.

Kids around the globe share details from their everyday routines, such as what they eat for breakfast and which sports they play, in addition to revealing stories about their favorite weekend activities and the different ways in which they celebrate their birthdays.

Me in a Box

What would happen if you took everything that sparked your imagination and put in a box? Tune into Me in a Box — where children design, create and present boxes they’ve decorated to showcase their unique perspectives and wide range of interests — and find out.

Noggin’s Neighbor’s

Noggin’s Neighbor’s takes a slice-of-life look at some of Noggin’s most beloved characters.

Oobi

Oobi is a short-form series about wonder. It’s about the stage in a young child's life when everything is new and incredible; a flower, a cat, peek-a-boo. Everything in Oobi's world deserves and gets a second look. The characters are wide-eyed, curious and driven to understand. They learn through direct experience with their world: In a park, a kitchen, a garden or wherever young children and their families might go. Oobi examines the small moments of understanding that occur every day in a young child's life. It's about the first awkward attempts at mastery and meaning, and the many small revelations of childhood.
