How new telecom law will impact the way we use apps like WhatsApp

With the new law, the government not only gains more control over telecom services, especially during ‘emergencies to ensure security and public order’, but also raises greater privacy concerns with regard to OTT communication services we use on a daily basis

The Telecommunications Act, 2023, came into force on June 26. Even though the law had been passed in December 2023, the new provisions it has come with are raising some important issues concerning the everyday use of telecom services.
