HYDERABAD: Just three cryptic sentences mentioned in a resolution was all it took to change the character of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Telangana’s most dominant political party, from a regional force to a par ty with national ambitions.
TRS, which was formed 21 years ago to seek separate statehood for Telangana, on Dasara emerged as a party aiming to go national with its state general body passing a unanimous resolution changing the name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
TRS supremo and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao signed the resolution copy changing the party’s name. It will be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday.
“The TRS in its state general body meeting dated October 5, 2022 has passed a resolution to change the name of the party from TRS to BRS. To that effect, necessary amendments to the party Constitution have also been made in the same meeting. The resolution and the amended party constitution is submitted,” the resolution reads.
The general body meeting began at 12 noon and ended within one hour, with KCR addressing his elected representatives and party functionaries.
Later he signed the necessary papers for passing the resolution and also sending the copy of amendments to the party constitution at 1. 19pm, considered an auspicious time for the big step. The meeting was attended by former Karnataka CM and JD(S) politician HD Kumaraswamy, his 20 party MLAs, Tamil Nadu’s VCK party functionaries and MP Thirumavalan, besides some farme r leaders.
Party sources said a delegation led by former MP B Vinod Kumar will go to Delhi and submit the letter changing the party name to BRS to the EC.
