Pratapgarh goes for green polling: Voters plant saplings at booths
PRAYAGRAJ: Under the unique concept of 'green voting', around 10,000 saplings were planted by the voters, especially the first timers, in neighbouring Pratapgarh district on Saturday. The voters with the help of Paryavaran Sena - an organisation working for environment protection - planted the saplings at polling booths as well as villages and blocks.
Head of the organisation, Ajay Krantikari told TOI, "For the environment conservation, voters, and volunteers with the help of Pratapgarh administration have planted around 10,000 saplings of mango, guava, jamun at more than1,000 booths." He added that first time voters took keen interest in voting as well as planting saplings at suitable spots. Ahead of polling, the volunteers had conducted a door-to-door campaign in villages, blocks and cities in eastern UP districts and roped in first time voters to cast their franchise as well as plant saplings. tnn
