  • Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
  • Known designers: Kōjin Ōno (TakaraTomy)
Ironhide was part of the original assortment of Transformers Autobot cars released in 1984, transforming into a red Nissan Sunny-Vanette Coach SGL. Ironhide splits when he transforms, with most of the rear section of his van mode transforming into a battle platform, and the remainder becoming his rather unusually-shaped, mecha-like robot form. The robot can mount onto the battle platform, which is armed with a raising missile launcher and front-mounted "Static Laser Gun". Unusually for toys of this period, the Static Laser Gun can actually store when Ironhide is in vehicle mode, plugging into his undercarriage (although the missiles for his launcher and the peg required to attach the laser don't go anywhere).
As with all his fellow Autobot Cars from that year, Ironhide's mold derived from Takara's Diaclone line, a series which was not about sentient robots, but rather human-controlled machines. This mold is the one that most clearly shows evidence of this: in place of a head, these toy robots had chairs behind windscreens where the human rider would control the robot. The figures did include stickers to go over these seats that depicted a sort of robot face, but when Ironhide and Ratchet's character models were created for Transformers media, all traces of the human-controlled design were removed to give the robots proper faces and heads, ultimately creating the two designs which diverged the most from the toys on which they were ostensibly based.
The stripe on the side of his vehicle mode (a sticker on the toy) is actually based on a special edition of the Nissan Cherry Vanette. On the real vehicle, the rear section (which is black on the toy's sticker) is actually the sliding rear door rail.[1]
For unknown reasons, Ironhide was the only Autobot Car not released by Takara as part of their original retail line in any form (while Ratchet was not available at retail, he was available as a S.T.A.R.S. mail away item). Ironhide was reissued several times; this article lists each reissue separately where appropriate.
This mold was also used to make the concurrently-released Ratchet.

  • Ironhide (Classic Heroes, 1990)
  • Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
The original Ironhide toy was first reissued in 1990 alongside several other early Transformers as part of the European-exclusive Classics range. He was functionally identical to his original release.

Generation 2

(thumbnail)
Not a Gateway.
  • Ironhide (Go-Bot, 1995)
    • Accessories: Gun
Part of the third wave of Generation 2 Go-Bots (which focused on Generation 1 characters), Ironhide is a redeco of wave 1's Motormouth, transforming into a silver Ford F150 Flareside pickup truck. Using through-axle construction for his wheels, he is compatible with most "Hot Wheels" and "Matchbox" play sets and tracks.
This mold was later redecoed into the Robots in Disguise Spychanger Ironhide, the Universe Autobot Ironhide, and the second Universe incarnation of Hoist.
The toy was later repurposed to be a "next-generation" clone of Ironhide.

Technically always in vehicle mode!
  • Ironhide (Power Master, 1995)
    • Accessories: 2 guns
Power Master Ironhide transforms into a khaki camouflaged-and-armored Humvee. His main gimmick is his "Power Master" pull-back motor, which you use by pulling back on his motorized rear wheels, then placing one of his guns into one of the holes above the doors, which releases a catch and allows him to zip along a smooth surface.
The Power Masters were the last toys in the Generation 2 line, and were only released in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Oddly, the Australia and New Zealand releases were in US packaging, complete with Hasbro's Rhode Island address. They also conspicuously lack any mention of Takara in their stamped-on copyright information.

Beast Wars

(thumbnail)
Yes, this Alien-faced monstrosity certainly screams out "G1 Ironhide"! Who could possibly think otherwise?!
  • Magnaboss (Ultra Class three-pack, 1997)
    • Accessories: 2 guns
The elephant Ironhide toy represents both the original Autobot and a latter-day Maximal.
Beast Wars Ironhide transforms from an elephant via a rather complex process involving numerous hinges and unfolding panels into a rather stumpy robot. Although dumpy, he is nothing if not well-armed: he has a flip-out spike at the end of each arm, and comes with two removable guns that flip out from behind his elephant mode ears, and which can be plugged into the holes at the ends of his arms. Ironhide is packaged with Prowl and Silverbolt, and combines with them to form his Magnaboss. Ironhide forms the bulk of the combiner's mass, including all four limbs.
The Magnaboss toy included no information about its three components beyond their names. In 2007, IDW Publishing decided to retroactively establish that the trio were the Generation 1 characters of the same names, and included this revelation in their Beast Wars Sourcebook.
Ironhide was slightly redecoed to create Santon.

Collector's Edition

G1toy collectors edition ironhide.jpg
  • Ironhide (June 2001)
    • ID number: 98
    • Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
Ironhide was made available in Japan for the first time as part of the Collector's Edition line of reissues, available exclusively from online retailer e-HOBBY in a two-pack with mold-mate Ratchet. As the first Japanese edition of Ironhide, this was the first time the toy had been given a Japanese ID number. As with his packmate, this version of the mold is the first to use metal pins for the shoulder connection rather than screws (something that all future reissues of this mold would adopt). This release also adds a rubsign onto the vehicle mode rear window.

Timelines

Red, red, and also red.
  • Descent into Evil (Multi-figure boxset, 2005)
    • Accessories: Radar assembly/energon weapon, battle sled
Timelines Ironhide is a retooling and redeco of Energon Tow-Line, transforming from a van into a robot and separate treaded battle sled, each featuring powerlinx ports that allow them to combine with any other compatible Deluxe or Mega from the Energon toyline. Ironhide himself forms the "torso" in such a combination (armed with small guns that flip out from his feet to become over-shoulder blasters), while his battle sled becomes the "legs" for another robot. And of course, Ironhide can powerlinx with his own battle sled.
He was only available in the BotCon 2005 exclusive Descent into Evil boxset, which also includes Buzzclaw, Chromia, Deathsaurus, Dirge, Fallback, and Ricochet.
Ironhide's retooled mold was also used to make Timelines Ratchet; they shared a new head mold, which combined elements of both of their designs, including Ironhide's head crest and Ratchet's forehead chevron.

Encore

His head problem just became a shoulders problem.
  • Ironhide (2007)
    • ID number: 05
    • Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
Ironhide's original Generation 1 toy was made available again in mid-December 2007 as part of Takara's ongoing Encore line of reissues. This version was distinguished by the inclusion of a "head" of sorts for the figure: one of the toy's box flaps featured an illustration of Ironhide's cartoon-design head and chest windshield which could be punched out along its perforated edges, and then slotted behind the toy's windshield. This hid the "chair-face" of the original toy and gave Ironhide his cartoon face... at the cost of making his arms appear to grow out of his waist.
This version of the toy was retooled to add a pair of "clips" to the mobile platform's gun-base, designed to keep Ironhide more securely attached when riding it. However, these clips are right where a pair of decals normally go. Additionally, like the original Japanese release of the figure (but unlike Hasbro's version), the missile launcher now fires.

Once you go black, you go back to red shortly afterwards.
  • Ironhide Protect Black (2008)
    • ID number: 05
    • Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
Tied in to Ironhide's Encore reissue was e-HOBBY's exclusive "New Year Special" redeco of the figure: Ironhide Protect Black (アイアンハイドプロテクトブラック). The toy was priced at 4725 yen, and pre-orders were taken until January 11, 2008, with a shipping date of April 2008.
The new bio accompanying the release of the toy notes that Ironhide acquired this protective black coating to disguise himself from both Decepticons and members of the human criminal underworld, to better allow him to do his job as Optimus Prime's bodyguard. The bio also gives a name to the "mode" that consists of Ironhide standing atop his artillery platform, dubbing it his "Marauder Mode".
According to e-HOBBY, the black coloration is meant to homage the original Diaclone toy which became Ironhide, but between the release of Ratchet Emergency Green and the bio's reference to black pickup trucks, it's easy to see this is also an homage to live-action movie Ironhide. The packaging is the same as the regular Encore Ironhide's.

Universe (2008)

(thumbnail)
Hey, I found my head! And that makes me sad.
  • Ironhide (Deluxe Class, 2008)
    • Series: Classic Series
    • Accessories: "Converting Cannon" gun/blade
As the first new-mold Ironhide toy designed to resemble the original character, Universe Ironhide transforms into a red SUV of made-up model. His chest features an Automorph-like gimmick that sees mechanical detailing rise up behind his chestplate when his bumper is lowered. He is armed with a double-ended "Converting Cannon" weapon, which deploys a translucent melee blade from one end, and a gatling cannon from the other. Although the instructions indicate that Ironhide's weapon should be attached by flipping his hand to the side of his wrist (as in transformation) and fitting the weapon over the naked wrist, the hand can in fact be made to fit inside the weapon with some careful jiggling.
His stock photography (seen here) shows him with a silver face and hubcaps, but as the final product shows, that didn't happen. While Hasbro claimed there would be a running change that would have the face in silver, no such change occurred. Speaking of packaging, Ironhide was also the first new Universe figure to have package art that wasn't burdened with dull surprise.
As a nod to the Marvel Generation 1 comics, Ironhide's license plate reads "OREGON"—the place that the Ark crash-landed and the bulk of the first half of the comic takes place.
The figure has a couple of production flaws. Due to a combination of three places on the figure having too much plastic, Ironhide's head assembly does not have the clearance to rise up fully, and it ends up looking like he's hanging his head in shame. However, with some heavy tinkering, the head can be raised to a more level, straight position [1]. The paint on the car roof has also been reported to rub off over time, and can have a sticky feel to it.
This mold was retooled to make Universe Ratchet and Henkei! Ratchet (surprising absolutely no one), plus BotCon 2012's Sir Soundwave. This toy also served as the model for the Shattered Glass incarnation of Ironhide.

(thumbnail)
He still has the head, and the stripe too.
  • Ironhide (Deluxe Class, 2008-11-20)
    • ID number: C-11
    • Accessories: Converting Cannon
Henkei! Henkei! Transformers Ironhide is a redeco of Universe Ironhide, with a view to making him far more accurate to his original The Transformers cartoon appearance. To this end, a generally darker shade of red plastic and lighter gray plastic are used. Additionally, the blue paint used for his opaque windows is a better match to his transparent blue windows than on Hasbro's Universe toy. As with all Henkei toys, Ironhide features vacuum-metallized silver for his headlights, brake lights and his Converting Cannon housing.
Although the instructions indicate that Ironhide's weapon should be attached by flipping his hand to the side of his wrist (as in transformation) and fitting the weapon over the naked wrist, the hand can in fact be made to fit inside the weapon with some careful jiggling.
Same as the Universe version, or on Henkei Prowl, this mold too suffers from the paint on the car roof turning sticky even on room temperatures and coming off.

Kre-O

"I tell you what, you can take a safety course, and if you're still interested in guns after they've taken all the fun out of it, we'll go to the tournament."
  • Destruction Site Devastator (2012)
    • Set number: 36914
    • Pieces: 560
    • Kreons: Devastator, Ironhide, Foreman, three Construction Workers
    • Accessories: Small pistol
After being teased for over a year (see below), a Kreon Ironhide finally came out as part of the biggest Kre-O Transformers set yet. Based on the original character's cartoon model, Kreon Ironhide is the lone defender of a construction site playset against four full-sized Constructicon brick-bots; Scrapper, Drill Bit, Scavenger, and Hightower.
He is in so much trouble.

  • Autobot Assault Devastator (2012)
    • Set number: 36914
    • Pieces: 781
    • Kreons: Devastator, Ironhide, Gunner, Foreman, three Construction Workers
    • Accessories: Small pistol
A Toys"R"Us exclusive version of the Devastator set comes with both a Kreon Ironhide and a full-build brick Ironhide, which can be rebuilt from an armored pickup truck (calling back to the Prime incarnation of the character, itself modeled after the live-action film version) into a robot. The robot/truck build also features twin pressure-launch missile launchers, and a bonus human Gunner Kreon.
He is in slightly less trouble now.

KreO-Toy IronhideCustomKreon.jpg
  • Ironhide (Custom Kreon, 2013)
    • Set number: A6086
    • Pieces: 38
    • Accessories: Rack, large cannon, disruptor pistol, gripper-claw, double-bladed staff
Part of the first assortment of "Custom Kreons", this version of Ironhide comes with a buildable parts rack on which to hang/store his many many extra pieces. His tampographs are much more heavily-detailed than the original Kreon, based on the original Ironhide toy. His "normal" helmet and large cannon (originally from Kre-O G.I. Joe) are chromed, plus he comes with an extra clear-plastic helmet, torso and legs. He also has a pair of extra arms (originally from the Kre-O Battleship aliens), plus a buildable cannon based around the aforementioned chrome gun, a small pistol (originally a Klingon disruptor from Kre-O Star Trek), a bendable gripping-claw, and a double-headed staff weapon.
Take extreme care with the chrome rifle/clear-plastic barrel combination, as attaching the two pieces will pretty much guarantee stress fractures on the clear-plastic barrel.

  • Kreon Class of 1984 (Kreon figure set, 2014)
    • Set number: B0090
    • Voted: Best Bot to Bring Home to Primus
    • Accessories: Assault rifle
This version of Ironhide, has a different set of toy-based tampographs (with a very cartoon-based face), though his plastic colors are based more on the original cartoon model. He has oddly been given a Wheeljack wing-pack, despite neither the toy or cartoon giving him wings.
He was only available in a San Diego Comic-Con 2014 exclusive pack of 30 Kreons dubbed the "Kreon Class of 1984". Remaining stock was to be sold at Hasbro Toy Shop online, only there was no remaining stock after the show.

    • Set Number: B5586/B0714
    • Pieces: 73

Popped outta nowhere without any announcement from Hasbro itself, Battle Changer Ironhide is a brick-built robot centered around a modified Kreon torso, transforming from robot to off-road truck and back without removing any parts.
Like his wavemate Megatron, he was only available at "discount" stores, first appearing at Dollar General, and then Walgreens for the holiday season.

Bot Shots

BotShots launcher Ironhide.jpg
  • Ironhide Launcher (Launcher, 2012)
    • Series: 1
    • Number: BL003
      • Fist strength: 505
      • Blaster strength: 235
      • Sword strength: 880
Part of the second wave of Bot Shots Series 1 launchers, Ironhide is a teeny pickup truck (with spoiler) with a spring-loaded automatic transformation to robot mode triggered when his front bumper is pressed. He has a "spinner" in his chest that shows his three attack types and power levels. His alternate mode and chest design are based on live-action movie Ironhide, with his head being based on the original Generation 1 Ironhide.
He comes with a large trailer that pops open into a battle station with a pair of articulated buzzsaw-arms, and a spring-loaded vehicle launching ramp. The cannons on top of the trailer are based on live-action movie Ironhide's cannons.
Ironhide was redecoed into Super Bot Dirt Boss, Blitz Shot Autobot Hound and Swindle. His main truck body, arms, and legs are also used by Autobot Ratchet and Protectobot First Aid. His launcher was redecoed into BeCool Ratchet's Rescue Base.

    • Number: B012
      • Fist strength: 500
      • Blaster strength: 670

Part of the first wave of Bot Shots Series 2 single-packs, Ironhide transforms into a pickup truck and is decoed in red not unlike Generation 1 Ironhide. As a Spin Shot, one manually winds up his upper body beforehand when transforming him into vehicle mode, where striking the front of the vehicle will cause him to burst open and spin while auto-transforming.
This mold was redecoed into Sergeant Kup.

BeCool

BotShots BeCool BlackOffRoadCarIronhide.jpg
  • Black Off Road Car (Ironhide) (2012)
    • ID number: B10
BeCool "Black Off Road Car" is practically identical to the single-packed black Bot Shots Ironhide toy, the only difference being that his stickers don't depict power levels but instead drawings of his vehicle mode off-roading, a tire and a wrench.

A truck... sure, sure...
  • Ironhide (Scout, 2013)
    • Pieces: 45
Part of Wave 1 of Construct-Bots Scouts, Ironhide can transform into a truck. Most of his parts debuted with him, however his head is a retool of Blitzwing's, switching his angry face with a grin. His large gun is also from Blitzwing.

Generations

  • Specialist: Autobots (Multi-pack, March 25, 2014)
    • Accessories: Converting cannon
Universe Ironhide was re-released in a three-pack with Classics Mirage and Universe Hound, available from Hasbro Asia and TakaraTomy Mall. All three Autobots feature new metallic paint decos, and the set's package art links up to the contemporaneously-released "Specialist: Decepticons" set to form a complete image. At selected stores in Asia, the set was available with a free Autobot insignia earphone cap plug.

Combiner Wars

(thumbnail)
Don't expect him to be repainted with black/grey colors with cannons added. Really.
  • Ironhide (Deluxe Class, 2015)
    • Accessories: Axe, "super-cooled nitrogen/white-hot molten lead" dual cannon/hand/foot/engine
Part of the fourth wave of Generations Combiner Wars Deluxe Class toys, Ironhide is a redeco/new-head retool of Decepticon Offroad, which transforms from a 4x4 double-cab pickup truck which is reminiscent of his live-action movie counterpart to robot and back! As a Combiner Wars Deluxe figure he can form a combined-mode limb for any Voyager Class toys from the same subline or any Unite Warriors figure or into one of Legends Godbomber's legs but is, of course, intended to be combined with Sunstreaker, Mirage, Prowl, and Optimus Prime to create Optimus Maximus. He is also officially associated with Betatron and Magnaboss. A sticker sheet was sold at BotCon 2016 to enhance Ironhide's resemblance to the original Beast Wars figure.
He includes a 5mm handle axe weapon, and a larger accessory that can form a hand or foot in limb mode, a gun for robot mode, and can be mounted on a tab in the vehicle mode's truck bed to form a giant engine block. In an unadvertised feature, the peg on his engine weapon is the right size to mount a Mini-Con on.
While the front hood/windshields are needed to be folded as kneecaps for his leg mode, the piece also sticks out automatically if he collides to Optimus Prime/Motormaster's (or and of Hot Spot's redecoes/retools) protruding foot while the legs are being swiveled in his standing position, unless the leg joints are bent down to lessen the problem.
Hilariously, the robot mode stock photo depicting a hand-painted prototype that's featured on the back of the toy's packaging is missing the wheel on his right leg.
Ironhide is packed with the comic book "First Contact", rebranded as Combiner Wars #15. In Canada, Latin America, and Europe, he was available in different types of multilingual packaging including a character card featuring his comic book cover/package art instead. He and the last three waves of Combiner Wars Deluxe and Voyager figures later started showing up at TJ Maxx at reduced prices with the collector card.
As a part of the third and fourth wave promotion in Hasbro's Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for the Protectobots and Optimus Maximus was given out when purchasing any four Deluxe Class toys from those waves. As such, Ironhide was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.[2]
The original sculpt was redecoed as Grabuge, heavily retooled as First Aid and differently retooled as Trailbreaker.

Masterpiece

(thumbnail)
The G1 Ironhide you always wanted. Except with hip kibble. And a beer gut. And a long face.
  • Ironhide (2016-01-30)
    • ID number: MP-27
    • Accessories: 2 Laser pistols, Static Laser Gun, missile launcher, missile, 2 alternate hands, 4 nozzles, wrist sonodar, chest screen, jetpack, 2 flare effects, battle sled, 2 faces
Masterpiece Ironhide transforms into a licensed Cherry Vanette. He is in the standard Masterpiece scale (since MP-9), standing between MP-10 Convoy and MP-12 Lambor in bot mode and can fit inside Convoy's trailer in vehicle mode.
He comes with a bunch of accessories referencing many of the gadgets he used in the Generation 1 cartoon. Ironhide's character model did not include any weapons or other extra tools or devices, meaning there was little to no consistency in the depiction of his armament in the series; as such, the toy picks and chooses from the many weapons and accoutrements he was seen using. He includes a pair of generic Autobot laser pistols of the same design as the gun that came with Masterpiece Bumblebee (which Ironhide began using in "Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1") which can be stored on the underside of his vehicle mode, a larger gun based on his original toy's Static Laser Gun (similar weapons having been seen in "City of Steel" and "A Prime Problem"), a set of alternate hands representing his ability to spray liquids through his fingertips (done in multiple episodes), a set of nozzles that can be exchanged for his hands based on those seen in "Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1", a second set of nozzles based not on anything from the cartoon, but on the connector peg for his Static Laser Gun from his original toy, the back-mounded missile launcher from "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3" based on his original toy's launcher, his wrist-mounted sonodar sensor dish from "S.O.S. Dinobots", complimented by a readout image of dinosaur bones that can be slipped behind his windshield, and the jetpack seen in "The Immobilizer", complete with jet-flare effects. A peg hole on the roof of his vehicle mode can hold one of the laser pistols or the Static Laser Gun.
Since Masterpiece Ironhide's robot mode incorporates the entire vehicle mode, a separate "battle sled" piece has been included, based on the component of the original toy, that can store all of Ironhide's accessories, including a second face piece that stores on the underside of the sled. In an additional nod to the original G1 toy, specifically its lack of a proper head, there is a sculpted detail resembling the "face" decal that went on the seat of the original toy that is visible through the windshield in van mode, that gets tucked away in robot mode.
There have been reports that the first release of the mold's chrome parts suffer from early corrosion similar to the issues encountered with the initial MP-5 Megatron.
If purchased from a seller supplied by Hasbro Asia, Ironhide includes a collector coin, mounted in a card which resembles the front of his van mode. It may have also included a die-cast drill accessory, based on the one he used in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3". The drill accessory came in a small case styled to resemble a tool case.[3]
Ironhide was retooled into Masterpiece Ratchet and MPG DK-2 Guard.

Unite Warriors

TF-UW05-Ironhide.jpg
  • Convoy Grand Prime (giftset, February 27, 2016)
    • ID number: UW-05
    • Accessories: Weapons, 4 Gun/Fist/Foots
Released as part of the TakaraTomy Mall exclusive Convoy Grand Prime set, Takara's iteration of Combiner Wars Optimus Maximus is sold in a gift set including all five Autobots (minus the Rodimus mold).
Compared to the Combiner Wars release, Ironhide has numerous changes in deco to better match his look in the Generation 1 cartoon: While he shares an identical paint mask to the Combiner Wars figure, his black unpaintable parts are now in the same shade of light grey. Other changes include the stripes being yellow-y orange, a black paint is added on the front roof, and his gunmetal paint on the hood & wheel rims are now silver.

War for Cybertron: Siege

(thumbnail)
Finally, the (good) Classics Ironhide we've all wanted!
  • Ironhide (Deluxe Class, 2019)
    • Hasbro ID number: WFC-S21
    • TakaraTomy ID number: SG-17
    • TakaraTomy release date: April 27, 2019
    • Hidden message code: TRITHYLLIUM
    • Accessories: "W-35 LR Doomblast Forge Launcher"
Part of the second wave of Siege Deluxe Class figures, Ironhide transforms from robot to Cybertronian van and back. In keeping with the War For Cybertron trilogy's concerns with scale, Ironhide is a full head taller than most of his Deluxe-priced mates. He includes a gigantic missile launcher cannon called the "W-35 LR Doomblast Forge Launcher," compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System, that can also convert into an equally gigantic hammer. As with all non-gimmick Siege figures, Ironhide features "battle damage" paint applications on his lower shins, feet, and weapon. He also features multiple hardpoints all over himself and his weapons to accommodate "Fire Blasts" from the Battle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions.
Ironhide suffers from a production flaw that causes the molded hinges on his legs to be too small to properly house the side panels from his vehicle mode, causing them to pop off at the slightest pressure. This can be resolved by removing the panels and using a small screwdriver to carefully widen the pegholes, which creates enough clearance to properly house the panels within the hinges.
Ironhide was redecoed into Deseeus Army Drone and retooled to varying degrees as Crosshairs, Ratchet and Animated Universe Autotrooper. The mold was also extensively retooled into Earthrise Ironhide (below).

The better Classics Ironhide we truly want.
  • Autobot Alliance 2-Pack (Multi-pack, 2020)
    • Hasbro ID number: WFC-E31
    • TakaraTomy ID number: ER EX-18
    • TakaraTomy release date: February 20, 2021
    • Accessories: Pistol, Roof/Shield
Released in the "Autobot Alliance" 2-Pack with Prowl in the Earthrise toyline, Ironhide is an extensive retooling of his Siege counterpart, transforming into a van similar to his original Nissan mode. He features a new chest/windshield, bumper, lower arms, and leg panels, as well as a roof piece that converts into a shield in robot mode. While similar to the Siege version's head, the toy's head is also new, remolded to have less detailing and to be more cartoon accurate. In lieu of the Doomblast Forge Launcher (which this figure can wield if you wish), the shield can also become a giant four-barreled cannon. For a little extra firepower, Ironhide also comes with a smaller pistol. Conveniently, this gun can be stored on the underside of the shield, tucking away neatly in van mode.
Although the figure features molded windows in van mode, said windows lack any paint, tampographs, or decals for color, which causes inconsistencies when combined with the translucent plastic from the roof to complete them. Similar to the Siege iteration, the figure's robot mode feet stick out conspicuously from the van mode's backside. Lastly, Ironhide's red color is visibly inconsistent throughout the combined figure, with some parts appearing more pink than red against the darker red pieces.
The Drill Gun seen in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3" is sold separately as part of the War for Cybertron Trilogy Deluxe Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack. Buzzworthy Bumblebee / War for Cybertron Trilogy "Worlds Collide" Bumblebee includes Earthrise Cliffjumper's bazooka redecoed in green, matching Ironhide's bazooka in "Transport to Oblivion", effectively adding another weapon to this Ironhide toy's arsenal.
The map piece that comes with Ironhide and Prowl is the mysterious Nebulon Station.
This pack was exclusive to Amazon in the United States, Canada and Europe. Unfortunately, the demand of the characters, combined with low stock and the COVID-19 pandemic complicating shipping issues, caused the 2-pack to command high prices online. That being said, Ironhide did get a mass-retail release with a more accurate mold in Studio Series (below), so... happy ending?
Ironhide was redecoed into Generations Selects DK-2 Guard.

The BEST Classics Ironhide we could possibly g– where's the stripe?
  • Ironhide (Voyager Class, 2022)
  • Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
  • Hasbro ID number: 86-17
  • TakaraTomy ID number: SS-97
  • Accessories: 2 laser pistols, "Decepticon Shuttle Ambush" backdrop
  • Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy), Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
Redone at the Voyager Class price point, Studio Series Ironhide is an attempt to improve the faults of the Earthrise version (while also being a general retail item instead of an Amazon exclusive). Though he is a similar size to that previous toy, the advanced transformation engineering means he doesn't have feet sticking out of the back of the vehicle mode and requires no partsforming, although it does suffer from the same varying shades of the red problem as the earlier release.
Oddly, his signature stripe on the sides of his vehicle mode is present as molded detail, though unpainted. Unpainted translucent blue tabs also stick out the top of the vehicle mode roof, meant to secure a lightbar for the later Ratchet retool.
Ironhide comes with dual laser pistols, which can be stored on his back, on the back of his legs, on top of his van mode, or under it as exhaust pipes.
Just like his previous Siege and Earthrise counterparts, Ironhide's Drill Gun seen in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3" (which was sold separately as part of the War for Cybertron Trilogy Deluxe Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack); as well as Buzzworthy Bumblebee / War for Cybertron Trilogy "Worlds Collide" Bumblebee's green bazooka (which was reminiscent of Ironhide's bazooka in "Transport to Oblivion") can both be used with this figure, even though these weapons cannot accommodate with Ironhide's vehicle mode.
Ironhide also includes a display backdrop depicting the scene from the '86 movie where he made his last stand against invading Decepticons aboard the Autobot Shuttle.
Obviously, this figure was retooled into Autobot Ratchet.

My circuits will sizzle if anyone suggests that I'm a Tote pretool.
  • Ironhide (Core Class, 2023)
  • Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
  • TakaraTomy ID number: SS-110
  • Accessories: 2 blasters
  • Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
Part of the sixth wave of Studio Series Core Class figures, Ironhide is the obligatory retool of Ratchet with a new head, van roof, and crotch. He transforms from a robot to a van in 15 steps and comes with two blasters which can either be held or stored on the sides of his vehicle mode. There is also ample space to store the guns inside the rear of the van.
Despite the Core Class lacking the backdrops included with all other Studio Series size classes, the outside and insert of Ironhide's packaging is decorated with artwork depicting the interior of the Autobot shuttle raided by the Decepticons in the film.
While handling the vehicle mode, be careful not to press down the upper and lower rear panels; doing so would likely disconnect its tabbing.
This figure was officially revealed on February 21st on a Transformers Tuesday, alongside Snarl.

He got the stripe, but at what cost...
  • Ironhide / Prowl (multi-pack, 2023)
  • Series: Studio Series
  • Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
  • ID number: 86-24BB
  • Accessories: 2 blasters, 2 large 3-part Fire Blast effects, "Decepticon Shuttle Ambush" backdrop
  • Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Yūya Ōnishi (TakaraTomy)[4], Marcelo Matere (backdrop artist)
A redeco and partial retool of the above Studio Series Ironhide figure, Buzzworthy Bumblebee Ironhide is a morbidly hilarious version of the character during his death in the 1986 movie. In addition to a new, distressed headsculpt, his chest has been retooled to include some pretty nasty battle damage, including a 5mm port for blast effects.
Notably, this version of Ironhide includes the yellow stripe on his van mode that the above standard Studio Series figure lacks. This figure also does away with all the painted translucent plastic featured on the previous figure, instead using a uniform red throughout, resulting in better color matching across both modes.
He was available in a 2-pack with a similarly morbid Prowl retool, along with two purple recolors of Siege Jetfire's Fire Blast effects. According to Hasbro designer Evan Brooks, he initially pitched this set as a joke that essentially got way out of hand.[5]
Like the rest of the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line, this figure was exclusive to Target in the United States, with Hasbro Pulse receiving small quantities of the pack.

Decoy

(thumbnail)
Rubber-hide
  • Cybertron Hero Collection 22 (Decoy multi-pack, 1985)
Ironhide was among the many characters rendered by Takara as part of their series of 1.5" soft rubber keshigomu figurines. Like all the figures in the series, Ironhide featured a number sculpted into his back that was the sum total of his Tech Specs, for use in the various games that could be played with the figurines. He was available in red as part of a 22-piece box set of Autobot figures, in peach as part of various other randomly-packed box sets released by Takara subsidiary Seven, and in a wide variety of different colors in "gachapon" capsule machines.
  • Ironhide (Decoy, 1987)
    • Decoy number: 7
The Ironhide figurine was later brought over to Hasbro markets as part of the Decoy promotion, largely identical to the Japanese release except the number on his back was replaced with a simple "checklist" number. Like all Autobot Decoys, he was a randomly-chosen pack-in available with the carded Throttlebots, Aerialbots, Protectobots, and Technobots.

Super Collection Figure

Ironhide had torso reduction surgery for this role.
  • Ironhide (2001)
    • Act: 3
    • Accessories: Stand
A three-inch tall PVC figurine of Ironhide was available in the third "act" of Takara's Super Collection Figure line. His pistol and nozzle-tipped-fingers left hand are modeled after his appearance in "The Search for Alpha Trion", though the pistol is painted black rather than light gray as in the episode. Like all the figures in the wave, it was available as both a standard full color figure and a colorless clear plastic version, one of each of which was available in a standard case of twelve blindpacked figures.
In two out of every ten cases, the full-color version of Ironhide came packaged with the left leg of the wave's collectable Fortress Maximus "build-a-figure". This part itself could be in either full color or clear plastic, packed at an equal 1:1 ratio.
This figure was slightly retooled to make SCF Ratchet.

Heroes of Cybertron

HOC Ironhide.jpg
  • Ironhide (2003)
Ironhide's Super Collection Figure PVC was released the following year by Hasbro in the third wave of the Heroes of Cybertron line. Like all the figures in the series, Ironhide was given a light-piping gimmick by being cast entirely in translucent blue plastic then painted everywhere except on his eyes and the back of his head.
Unlike the Japanese version, he was sold separate on a blister card, and came with a bio card packed in the bubble.

Signal Lancer would soon rethink teaming up with Ironhide.
  • Ironhide (Booster, 2007)
Ironhide was likely to have been one of several Transformers Attacktix Booster pieces. Though displayed as part of the Attacktix display at the Star Wars "Celebration IV" convention, he —and all the other pieces revealed at the show— were ultimately never released.

Boss Coffee

BossCoffee ironhide.jpg
  • Ironhide (2008)
A non-transforming PVC figure of Ironhide was released as part of a promotion by Boss Coffee. The small figure was randomly included with single cans of the company's "Rainbow Mountain Blend" coffee, contained in a plastic capsule affixed to the top of can which then became a display base for the figurine once removed. Ironhide features articulation at the shoulders and waist, and came with a small catalog leaflet that could be folded up and attached to the lid/base to form a diorama background for added display value.

Transformers - Mini Bust

(thumbnail)
Proof that EVERY Wave 1 Autobot had a shoulder cannon.
  • Ironhide (2009)
Released by Diamond Select Toys in 2009, Ironhide was sculpted by Mark Wong of Art Asylum and limited to 1000 pieces. This detailed bust is based on Ironhide's (you guessed it) cartoon/comic model, but with much more detailing and with elements of his toy design. These include his vehicle sled's missile launcher mounted on his shoulder, his wielding of his sled's static laser gun and his original Diaclone "face" being present behind his windshield. In addition to the missile launcher being removable his open left hand can be replaced with a hand gripping his cartoon pistol for two handed "chop busting."

Notes

(thumbnail)
You have to be pretty desperate to copy Blowout's motto.
  • The black Diaclone version of Ironhide was sold by Takara in North America as the Diakron "DK-2" Car/Robot in 1983, seemingly just a few months before he would be rebranded as a Transformer.
  • An early version of Power Master Ironhide's artwork in blue and yellow was used on packaging mock-ups displayed around Hasbro's headquarters bearing the names "Light Speed", "Belzone", and "Pothole", though no release of these toys was ever intended.
  • A mock-up of a new Camshaft toy in the form of a Universe (2008) Ironhide redeco was shown in Transformers Generations 2014 Volume 1 as one of ten potential exclusives for Vol. 2. During the fan poll held to determine which of the ten would be produced, Camshaft claimed only 1.6% of the votes, leaving him in second-to-last place.[6]
  • In the first year of Kre-O, long before Devastator's set was released, an Ironhide Kreon was included in a turntable display of Kreons found in some retail outlets, often labeled as Sideswipe. He taunted you.
