Based on the Famitsu report, Bleach 2nd looks like it will feature an updated version of the fighting system from the original, with new modes and characters. So far, only a couple of new characters have come to light, although it's also been revealed that older characters will return with new moves. As for the fighting system, the game's power-up system, where you touch cards on the touch screen in order to activate power ups, has been updated to display four selectable cards at once instead of two. New cards are being prepared for the game as well.
Treasure is also working a new mode of play into the title. You'll now be able to play through a Mission Mode, which lets you progress to the next battle only if you win your current fight under certain conditions. Your favorite modes of play from the original return as well, of course, including the nation-wide Wi-Fi battle mode.
Famitsu scored some comments on Bleach 2nd from Treasure producer Masato Maegawa and Sega producer Shinji Motoyama. Motoyama noted, without providing much in the way of clarification, that both from a rule and visual standpoint, the sequel will offer a better sampling of the Soul Society featured in the television show. Maegawa mentioned that the sequel will include, in addition to the 4 on 4 fights of the original, one-on-one fights with giant spirits, making the title feel like an action game. Maegawa also apologized for the WiFi play in the original and promised that the sequel will be easier to play online.
Japan will get Treasure's next DS game this Winter. As for America, we'd be happy with even the original. Make it happen, Sega!
